With the recent loss of Rhode Island Basketball head coach Dan Hurley to UConn the University of Rhode Island power rankings must be adjusted accordingly. Below are the updated rankings:

  1. Joe Augustine – Rhode Island men’s ice hockey head coach

Coach Augustine has been the coach for the school’s club ice hockey team for 29 seasons, 27 of which have been winning seasons. He went to Boston College and helped the Eagles to a Beanpot Championship in 1976 and a second place finish in the 1978 NCAA Tournament. He was inducted into the Boston College Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005. He played six seasons professionally in the Calgary Flames, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils organizations. In 2005 he coached the University of Rhode Island to an ACHA national championship. Only one other program in school history has won a national championship, the men’s track team in 1941.

  1. Brenda Celona – Owner, Total Image Hair Salon

Brenda runs the best hair salon at URI and has done so for 28 years. She creates a warm, inviting environment for all students and even has regular customers that don’t go to the university. She has a loyalty program that allows clients to get a free haircut after six visits. Celona loves being connected to the URI community and will often donate gift certificates or product baskets to fundraisers at the school.

  1. Rhody the Ram

The beloved mascot for the school, Rhody attends any major social event no matter the date or time and is always in a bright and happy mood that he tries to spread to others. Not only is Rhody the pride and joy of the University, but he is also one tough cookie. In 1998 he was involved in a mascot fight during a URI vs St Joseph’s basketball game at Keaney Gym. Rhody tried to prevent the famous St. Joe’s Hawk from flapping his wings and things escalated quickly. You can watch the whole thing unfold on YouTube, it’s pretty great.

  1. Bryan Dewsbury – Assistant Professor of Biology

When asking people around campus if Dr. Dewsbury should be on this list I got a resounding, “Yes he’s the best professor ever,” from many students around campus. I personally have never had him as a professor but the reviews do not lie people. He has a 4.3 on Ratemyprofessor with a 100 percent “would take again” rating. People say that he inspires them and that he truly cares about his students. I’ve also heard that out of all his students he’s ever taught at URI, only four percent have failed.

  1. Vinny Joyce – Manager – Rams Den

Vinny is a very nice person and runs a well oiled machine at the Rams Den, arguably the best URI Dining location on campus. He is also a great singer. He will occasionally sing the national anthem at the basketball games as well as soccer, volleyball and the Pawtucket Red Sox. Vinny also got the opportunity to sing the Canadian National Anthem at a Red Sox/Toronto Blue Jays game at Fenway Park and did so in a Rhode Island baseball jersey.

Honorable Mentions:

URI baseball Head Coach Raphael Cerrato, URI women’s hockey Head Coach Ashley Pagliarini, URI Police, URI EMS and Lamar Odom
