Positives:
- The Rhode Island women’s track team had fantastic results in the Terrier Classic. Altogether, six top ten finishers and 17 athletes produced personal bests for URI. Of course, the standout performance was senior Mariah Claudio since she set the school record in the 500-meter, but 17 personal bests speaks to the dedication, preparation and the results coming their way.
- The development of Jared Terrell recently has been exactly what Rhody has needed. The sophomore has started to pick up the scoring, posting two straight twenty-point games, coincidentally his first two of the year, while also taking the toughest assignment on the defensive end every game. Big things ahead for him and the team in 2017.
Negatives:
- The Rhody men’s basketball team lost yet another opportunity for a quality win, which was disappointing. This has been a tough year for the Rams with injuries, the underperforming front court and their evident inability to compensate for the absence of E.C. Matthews. It may already be too late for the Rams to get into the tournament without winning the conference tournament at the end of season, but these losses are not helping and are beginning to stack up.
- The URI women’s team’s loss at Fordham might be the final straw, barring a conference tournament victory later in the season. Rhode Island drops to 10-10 and just 4-4 in the Atlantic 10. Losing a game to a conference foe that is just 9-12 on the season is obviously not a resume booster.
Players of the Week:
Mariah Claudio (Terrier Classic) – Claudio set a school record in the 500-meter race by over a full second and qualified for the ECAC’s, and now owns four individual school records in the 300-meter, 400-meter, 500-meter and 400-meter outdoor.
Jared Terrell (64-55 loss vs. Saint Joseph’s) – Terrell scored 25 points, accounting for almost half of the team’s offensive output. Terrell has really taken the burden of scoring and is logging heavy minutes.
Team of the Week: URI women’s track and field (Terrier Classic) – The URI women’s team had six top ten finishers, five new all-time marks, and best of all had 17 new personal bests. It is tough to beat that much success.
Off the Record:  Going into last Friday’s game against the Magic, the Celtics had a record of 49-33 in their previous 82 games, tied for sixth best in the NBA.  In addition, since March 21st, the Celtics are 20-11 on the road, second best in the NBA behind the Golden State Warriors.
