The Musicians Guild held a one-night concert with performances by Plastyc Peachez and Nevercominghome on Friday, Feb. 24.

Both bands performed a setlist of over 10 songs each, filled with their own songs and a few covers. They each had a lot of energy on stage and were having a great time performing.

Everyone in the crowd was jumping around, forming a dance circle and some people were even crowd-surfing during the performances. The amount of cheering and energy in the room was enough to fill an entire stadium.

Plastyc Peachez went first with their performance and they got the attention of the crowd immediately. Their setlist consisted of some songs from their latest EP called “Peach Bumz” released on Spotify. Some of the songs included “Sisterhood of the Traveling Dance” and “Carpool Tunnel.”

“Sisterhood of the Traveling Dance” was a more slow-paced song that set a very chill vibe in the room. “Carpool Tunnel” was fast-paced and was a true headbanger.

Kartik Mohanty, fourth-year electrical engineering major, talked about how he enjoyed Plastyc Peachez’s performance and the overall night.

“I had a lot of fun. I like that there are a lot of people there and I thought the band was really good too,” Mohanty said.

There was a lot going on that night, and everyone in the room kept the same energy throughout both performances and every song that was played.

Almost everyone in the room was dancing along to the songs and just having an overall great time. The atmosphere in the room was so energetic and fun, you couldn’t help but not dance and sing along with the entire crowd.

“What I enjoyed most about the concert was just the atmosphere around me and all the people on the dance floor and the people crowd surfing and in the mosh pit,” Mohanty said.

Nevercominghome began their performance after a short five to ten minute break. They came with the same energy and power as Plastyc Peachez did.

They performed a bunch of songs of their own and even did some cover songs, which the crowd really loved. Some covers they performed were “Somebody Told Me” by The Killers and the “iCarly” theme song “Leave It All To Me,” with their own rock twist to it.

Matt Delaney, third-year plant science major and president of Musicians Guild, talked about the event and why he and the rest of the guild chose these two specific bands to come to URI and perform for a night.

“We were just trying to put on a fun cool show for the beginning of the semester,” Delaney said. “Nevercominghome and Plastyc Peachez are two of my favorite local bands. I think they both rock. So, we just wanted to bring that vibe to campus and have a good, safe time to enjoy some really dope live music.”

There was an admission fee for the concert, five dollars for students with their student ID’s, and seven dollars for students without them. They’re saving up for some big things coming up in the future, according to Delaney. He didn’t want to give too much away, but the Guild has some big plans for next year in terms of events and concerts.

In terms of the turnout for the event, Delaney was very happy with the amount of people that came to watch the concert. All he wanted for the night was for people to come and have fun while listening and appreciating good local talent.

“We had a really great turnout, one of our best this year, and I think the music rocked,” Delaney said. “I think the crowd had great energy and I think it was a total success.”

The Musician’s Guild is always working to bring talented musicians to URI for students and others in the community to enjoy, according to Delaney. He also mentioned that they will be having another event coming up on March 24, featuring hardcore screamo punk bands.
