Musicians Guild rallies up music enthusiasts

Rhode Island’s population and size may seem tiny, but its passion for music is anything but small.

For instance, Providence is very well known for its independent music scene, which includes genres such as pop punk, indie rock and alternative. The good part is that it’s not all about rock music. Rhode Island has a very diverse mixture of music. Although bands and musicians are well known for playing popular venues around Providence, they come from all over Rhode Island. Some of them even come from URI.

The Musician’s Guild is not a band, but they do enjoy jamming out with the group whenever they can because that’s what musicians do. Although jam sessions are a must, their message is not just about their music. It’s about all music. Their main goal is to help out the local scene and support local musicians around R.I.

They book unknown bands and individual artists around R.I. and put up shows for them. The best part is that their shows are totally affordable and fairly priced. Sometimes they’re even free. They have an upcoming show Oct. 2 for those interested.

The Musician’s Guild’s secretary Ryan Collins said that joining the musician’s guild helps make strong friendships and gain some easy music experience, such as learning how to use equipment and maybe even learning a little guitar from another member.  As a member of the club, he also said that there are no certain requirements for music experience. There really aren’t any music majors in the club. Whether you play music or just listen to it, you’re very welcome to be a part of it.

The members of the Musicians Guild are very friendly people and enjoy the company of other music lovers. The Musician’s Guild is willing to give a voice for any new members. As a new member, there are basic responsibilities like pitching ideas and setting up for shows. They want you to share your ideas as well because everyone is into different things. The club looks for ideas such as sharing new genres, bands and opinions for upcoming shows.

Their main purpose is to give everyone in music a voice. They meet on Mondays at 6 p.m..
