In 2013, Samuel Ogundare was asked for his picture to be taken for the company Microsoft. Little did he know his face would be seen in an article on the topic of accidental racism. He said that the essential edition of the book had a picture of him and his friend on the cover and they are black. The introductory edition of the book had a picture of a white male and a white female on the cover. Lastly, the advanced edition had a picture of an Asian male and an Asian female on the cover. Ogundare says after seeing the three different editions of the book, he felt as though Microsoft was sending a stereotypical message. He also found that a picture of the three books, side by side, was featured in the article, “19 Cases of Accidental Racism,†on multiple different websites. I reached out to the company Microsoft but a spokesperson said they have no comment at this time.
