“Aurora” the album by Daisy Jones and the Six
First of all, I should give credits to our editors Liz, Claudia and Maddie for telling me to read “Daisy Jones and the Six” the book, because if it were not for them, this would not be my top song (but really, entire album) for the month of March. I read the book and watched the whole show in the span of two weeks, and ever since then, have been listening to this album on repeat. Yes, “Daisy Jones and the Six” is a fictional band, but for a fictional band, their album rocks. Knowing all of the drama behind each song based off of the stories in the book/show makes it even better to listen to as well. I can visualize Daisy and Billy singing to each other each time I listen and want to cry every time as a result.

“Fly Away” by Lenny Kravitz
This song radiates good vibes. As soon as the sun comes out and it’s over 55 degrees, this song is blasting in my car, windows down and I am singing along. Kravitz’s vocals along with the powerful guitars make this song so incredibly memorable. It’s a near travesty that this song almost didn’t make it onto the album in the 90s, which makes it even more special for me. The lyrics take the listener higher each verse, farther away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, reminding us all that sometimes you just have to fly away.

“Gold Dust Woman” by Fleetwood Mac
I would like to start this off by saying that if we were actually basing this off of statistics, my actual top song of the month would be “The River” by Daisy Jones and the Six (check out my review of the TV show this week! Shameless self promotion!) But Juliana decided to claim the entire album so instead I’m going to go with my top song that isn’t by Daisy Jones and the Six and that is “Gold Dust Woman” by Fleetwood Mac. Nothing puts a pep in my step walking to class like listening to this and pretending everyone thinks I’m the gold dust woman, aka, Daisy Jones aka Stevie Nicks. If you haven’t listened to this absolute bop head over to your streaming platform of choice ASAP. And go ahead and just listen to all of the “Rumors” album while you’re at it. You can’t go wrong.

“Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift
Despite its name, “Cruel Summer” is a banger during every season. But, it hits especially different during the first nice day of the year, when you realize it’s finally okay to leave the winter coat at home. As soon as I feel temperatures rise over 50 degrees, I’m transformed into a new being and “Cruel Summer” is the perfect theme song for my warm weather persona. It’s the ultimate pop song — it’s summery, it’s messy, it’s romantic, it’s fun, and only Taylor Swift could make a hit out of rhyming “cruel summer” and “ohh, whoa oh.”

“Magic Carpet Ride” by NCT127
“Magic Carpet Ride” by NCT127 is my all time favorite song of theirs. It is so beautifully sung by all nine of the members and the lyrics are so sweet and romantic. Yuta and Taeil’s vocals on the song were so enchanting and smooth. Their voices made me fall in love with this song. Everything from the verses to the chorus were just so perfect and so well produced, and all nine of the members sang so calmly like they’re singing a lullaby. Doyoung brought it home with his parts, especially with his ad libs of him just going all out in the background. I also really love it because my favorite member, Yuta, got a lot of singing parts and showed his amazing vocal strength and talent that is not shown a lot in their songs.

“Cold Cold Man” by Saint Motel
To put it simply, this song makes me feel alive. This song is a drive home at 2 a.m. with the windows down past the salt air. The instrumental riff that kicks it off is electric and the rest of the song has unmatched good vibes. I know Ronan and Claudia mentioned the recent 55 degree weather and this song is the perfect one to bring me into the warmer season. The cover art is also very cool, giving retro summer vibes.

“Rose Colored Lenses” by Miley Cyrus
This month Miley Cyrus has dominated my Spotify. This song was one of my favorites from the album “Endless Summer Vacation.” A beautifully written song about relationships. Miley conveys the message that there can be too much of a good thing and that can lead you to not being able to see red flags through rose colored lenses. I think everyone can relate to this song on some level and it really resonated with me. Ever since hearing the album, I was immediately drawn to this song, and think it will stay a part of my music rotation for sometime.

“Brazil” by Declan McKenna
While this song strays very far from my usual taste in music, it will always remind me of my spring break road trip to Canada that I embarked on with three friends this year. Introduced to me by these friends during our six-hour commute to Montreal, there was an incredibly calming, freeing charm to the music that perfectly encapsulated the vibe of driving through the snowy mountains of Vermont with absolutely nothing around you for miles. As someone who is constantly connected, online and stressed about something, this was an incredibly welcome change that I desperately needed. And this song will always be associated with that.

“Gold and Green” by Slaughter Beach, Dog
Some music feels almost seasonal. Even when you can listen to a song year-round, some songs and artists will always feel like the season. A song about growth, “Gold and Green” gives the same energy as stepping outside on the first warm day of the year. It sounds like the musical equivalent to a clear, spring day after a long winter.

“Stay” by Florida Georgia Line
This song has been on repeat ever since I was introduced to it a couple of months ago. The song was originally recorded by Black Stone Cherry, a rock band. However, it was later reworked by FGL. The song is about how the singer’s love interest left him and he will do anything to have her back in his life. It is the perfect combination of love, heartbreak, rock and country, all in one song. I love country music, especially when the weather is nice out. This song is the perfect tune to kick off spring and drive with the windows down season.

“Dang” by Mac Miller and Anderson Paak
Songs are seasonal, for instance you typically wouldn’t listen to the Beach Boys during the winter. In this same sense, I find the song “Dang” by Mac Miller to be my favorite spring song. While the song goes over the quarrels of a slowing relationship, the instrumentals are indicative of the opposite. The bass is kept up-beat by a snappy drum kit that is accompanied with claps and snapping as snares. During this time of year, I love starting my spring runs with tempo and speed, and this seems to be the perfect song to burst out of your door on a surprising 60 degree morning.

“Bad Day” by Daniel Powter
My favorite kind of music is the type that transports me back to happy moments and this song does just that. Daniel Powter was on American Idol about a decade ago, back when I was a religious viewer of the program. My father and I would listen to the song on the way to the supermarket and it would improve the mood instantly. It is a song of comfort and reassurance, something I’ve been needing in March. I have never listened to another song by Powter, but this remains to be a top ten belting song in my playlist.
