Basketball stutters, indoor track opens season – This week in sports 12/6

Men’s Basketball:

FINAL (12/2): Providence 84 – 69 URI

FINAL (12/6): Brown 67 – 64 URI

The Rams suffered two tough losses against their Rhode Island rivals this past week. On Saturday, the Rams took a 15-point loss to Providence College at the Amica Mutual Pavillion in Providence. Women’s Basketball:

FINAL (11/30): Quinnipiac 61 – 59 URI

FINAL (12/3): URI 60 – 58 #25 Princeton

FINAL (12/6): Providence 51 – 50 URI

This past week, the Rhode Island women’s basketball team underwent a grueling three-game stretch. Despite losing in two close contests against Quinnipiac on Thursday and Providence on Wednesday, the Rams found some light in an upset victory over the #25-ranked Princeton Tigers – their first-ever ranked win. Alden Invitational (12/2): 2nd of 6

BU Open (12/2): Individual scoring

The Rhode Island men’s track and field team participated in split meets this past Saturday, in the Brown University Open and the 37th-annual Alden Invitational. The BU Open was highlighted by Collin Och’s third-place finish in the 800-meter. In the Alden Invitational, URI finished second of the six participating teams. Suffolk Relays (12/2): Individual scoring

The women’s track and field team participated in two meets last Saturday. In the Suffolk Relays at The Track at New Balance, Lily Saul, who won the 1000-meter, and Hanna O’Connor, who won the mile, headlined the Rams’ performance with meet records.
