During the first full week of school, the University of Rhode Island Police Department responded to a total of 13 medical emergencies, all resulting in transportation to the hospital. The bulk of the emergencies occurred on Sunday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 10, with four emergencies on each day.
One medical emergency, on Sunday Sept. 8, was followed by the arrest of a 19-year-old man at Fayerweather Hall. Police initially arrived at 1:49 a.m. and cleared the scene by 3:07 a.m. The man was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer in execution of duty and resisting legal or illegal arrest. Following the arrest, the man was transported to the hospital.
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, there were two reports of suspicious persons on Complex Road. The first was dispatched at 3:25 a.m., required no action, and was cleared at 4:14 a.m. The second report occurred three minutes after the initial report was filed and was cleared within 15 minutes.
Along with medical emergencies, five well-being checks were issued, three of which required action.
16 motor vehicle accidents occurred throughout the week. Three accidents required assistance and 13 accidents resulted in reports being filed.
13 motor vehicle stops occurred throughout the week. Four resulted in a citation or warning, eight resulted in a verbal warning and one required assistance.
