Writer’s Rankings: Best Taylor Swift songs for Fall

The leaves are changing, and maybe your music taste is too.

I am a big Taylor Swift fan, and my fall playlist is full of her songs. I did a deep dive into the five best Taylor Swift songs to listen to in the fall, and these are too good not to be shared.

Coming in at first place, Taylor Swift’s album “Red (Taylor’s Version).” She has a 10-minute song, yes, you heard that right, 10 minutes. “All Too Well (10 minute version) (Taylor’s Version)” is not only my favorite song on Red, but my all-time favorite song of hers. This song is fall in a nutshell.

“After plaid shirt days, and nights when you made me your own…Autumn leaves falling down like, pieces into place, and I can picture it after all these days.”

These lyrics give a sense of imagery that radiates fall. In her short film for this song, it takes place in the fall, featuring sweaters, scarves and leaves.

Swift’s album “Evermore,” consists of another one of my favorite songs, “Champagne Problems,” which has fall written all over it. This album is an anthology about love, grief, human emotion and betrayal. Think Hallmark movie, that’s what this album is. When I listen to this song, I can picture myself in a field of pumpkins. The details and lyrics that Swift gives us help create imagery for the song.

“Your Midas touch on the Chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure, this dorm was once a madhouse, I made a joke well it’s made for me.”

The local college boy proposes and is rejected, nothing can help rebuild what they once had, not even a “Midas touch.” The specificity in her lyrics allows the listener to interpret it in any way. The addition of words like flannel and November flush creates the ultimate fall lyric.

Although her album “Lover” is commonly associated with summer because of its bright album cover of pastel pink and blue, the song “Cornelia Street” is a perfect fall listen.

“Windows swung right open, autumn air, jacket ‘round my shoulders is yours.”

Cornelia street is located in Greenwich Village, New York City. Swift talks about how her relationship with her past partner developed inside her Cornelia street apartment. She recalls the memories she had with this person and creates an autumn based setting.

The album “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” has a song that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of fall through the lens of a child. In “The Best Day,” Swift does an excellent job of recalling nostalgia, and memories of her childhood.

“I’m five years old, it’s getting cold, I’ve got my big coat on…I run and run past the pumpkin patch and the tractor rides…I don’t know why all the trees change in the fall.”

A big part of childhood is doing seasonal activities with your family, and pumpkin patch visits are a popular one. This song reminds the listeners of their childhood memories and helps create a nostalgic feeling.

Last but not least, “Marjorie” from the “Evermore” album finishes this list. Swift dedicated this song to her late grandmother Marjorie. The lyrics reflect Swift’s memories of her grandmother. She explains things that remind her of her grandmother, particularly fall related.

“The autumn chill that wakes me up, you loved the amber skies so much, long limbs and frozen swims you’d always go past where our feet could touch.”

Whether you consider yourself a hardcore swiftie, occasionally listen to her or have never dabbled in her music, these songs are a must-add to your fall playlist.
