Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional Championship

10/10-10/12

The University of Rhode Island tennis team had four players compete in this weekend’s tournament. Third-year Nikki Fernando and first-year Katharina Spieth both won two matches in singles play before being eliminated. Third-year Sophie Herrman lost her match in the singles main draw. However, in doubles, the partnership of fourth-year Klara Nelander and Herrman, as well as Fernando and Spieth both picked up wins. Women’s cross country

New England Cross Country Championship – 10/11

URI came in second place with 84 points, marking the third such finish in program history at the New England Championships. Fourth-year Sofia Picconte led the Rams with a 5-kilometer time of 17:52 and placed sixth overall. Second-year Lilly Saul came in 12th and fourth-year Erin Hurley came in 15th place. Men’s cross country

New England Cross Country Championship – 10/11

Rhode Island took home third place with 108 points at the New England Championships. Second-year Garrett Hartline led the way for the Rams, placing 5th overall in the 8-kilometer race with a time of 24:32. Second-year Nick Martin also had a top-10 finish with his time of 24:46. Football

FINAL (10/12): URI 31-21 Brown University

The Rams were trailing 21-17 going into the fourth quarter, before putting up 14 unanswered points to win the game. The late comeback started with a 45-yard touchdown run by fourth-year wide receiver Shawn Harris Jr, followed by second-year URI Quarterback Devin Farrell scoring a five-yard rushing touchdown. Women’s swim and dive

FINAL (10/12): URI 181-114 Siena College

Rhode Island finished on the podium in 11 out of 16 events in the pool on Saturday to defeat Siena College in their season opener. Second-year Julianna Tyler had three victories, taking first place in the 200 and 100-meter butterfly along with the 200-meter relay. URI had four events where they completed 1-2-3 sweeps. Men’s soccer

FINAL (10/12): Saint Louis University 1-0 URI

A goal scored early in the first half off the head of fourth-year SLU forward Luis Lara would end up being the game-winning goal against URI on Saturday. Volleyball

FINAL: (10/12) URI 3-2 Duquesne University

FINAL: (10/13) Duquesne University 3-1 URI

URI won the first game of its weekend series on Saturday against Duquesne in five sets. URI took a 2-0 set lead, but the Dukes would take the next two. The Rams would halt the Duquesne comeback and win the fifth set 16-14. The next day, Duquesne won game two of the series in four sets, only dropping the second. Women’s soccer

FINAL (10/13): URI 2-0 Fordham University

Fordham and URI went into halftime scoreless in Sunday’s Atlantic 10 matchup. First-year Kaia Rice would open the second half with a goal to give Rhody the lead. Later in the half, second-year Lauren MacDonald who assisted on Rice’s goal also scored. First-year goaltender Chelsea Mohammed got her first career win, picking up a clean sheet and five saves in the process. Men’s basketball

FINAL (10/14): #3 University of Connecticut 102-75 URI

URI took on the back-to-back defending national champion UConn Huskies in the Hall of Fame Enshrinement game on Monday, marking the first time Dan Hurley faced his former team for the first time since leading the Rams to an A-10 regular season title in 2018. The Huskies held onto a four-point lead going into halftime of the charity exhibition, but in the second half the Huskies pulled away, outscoring URI 58-35 and securing a 27-point win.
