Final (11/2): University of Rhode Island 37-28 Monmouth University
URI took on Monmouth in a tight game on Saturday afternoon. The two teams went back and forth for the entirety of the game until fifth-year Malik Grant’s 16-yard run and second-year Marquis Buchanan’s touchdown gave URI the lead in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. Men’s Basketball
Final (11/4): URI 96-58 Fairfield University
On Monday night, the Rams won their first non-conference game of the season at the Ryan Center. The Rams had a significant lead throughout the game, which was called tightly with 56 total fouls. The calls had little effect on URI’s lead, as six different players finished with double-digits and the team shot 53.8% from the floor. Women’s Basketball
Final (11/4): URI 68- 45 Stonehill College
URI started non-conference play with a win over Stonehill on Monday. Despite a close first quarter, the Rams found their momentum and were able to pull away quickly towards the end of the first half. Fifth-year transfer Harsimran “Honey” Kaur led the way for the Rams with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks in her first game with URI. Final (11/1): Virginia Commonwealth University 3-0 URI
Final (11/2): Virginia Commonwealth University 3-1 URI
The Rams traveled to VCU this past weekend to take on the black and gold in a two-match series. The Rams were swept in the first match in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18. In the second match, URI was able to win one set, but still fell 3-1 after VCU took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21. URI took the third set 25-22 before VCU was able to close out the match 25-19 in the final set. Second-year outside hitter Madi Disu led Rhode Island’s offense as she finished with a double-double, recording 11 kills and 13 digs. First-year Havyn Rolle added 10 kills and four blocks. Men’s Soccer
Final (11/2): Davidson College 2-1 URI
Davidson broke through first in the 54th minute with a free kick in the regular season finale for both schools. Fifth-year Lyman Ott knocked it in from close range for the 1-0 lead. Rhode Island responded in the 71st minute when fourth-year Isak Oystese sent a through pass into the box and found the foot of fellow fourth-year Brandon Bermingham through the middle, who chipped the goalkeeper to knot the game at one. Davidson’s second-year Noah Louzan scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, securing a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the Wildcats in the process and ending URI’s season . Men’s Cross Country – Atlantic 10 Championship
Final (11/2): Ninth overall
Second-year Garrett Hartline finished 10th overall at the A-10 Championship, which led Rhode Island to a ninth-place finish. Hartline crossed the 8-kilometer finish line in 24:18.7, leading the Rams and earning All-Conference honors. He was joined in the top-50 by fifth-year Joe DosReis, who ran a 25:02.1 for 37th place overall. URI came in ahead of 10th-place Fordham, while finishing just behind eighth-place Duquesne University in the team standings. Women’s Cross Country – Atlantic 10 Championship
Final (11/2): Eighth overall
Rhode Island women’s cross country team finished eighth at the A-10 Championship. Fourth-year Sofia Piccone led the Rams on the 6000-meter course, crossing the line in 21:26.9 to place 25th overall. She was closely followed by third-year Lily Saul, who finished 28th in 21:32.5. The team improved its standing from a year ago, improving from a 12th place in 2023. Rowing – Princeton Chase
Final (11/3): 25th, 47th and 64th overall
The University of Rhode Island women’s rowing team took part in the Princeton Chase on Sunday, entering three boats in the Women’s Open 8+ event, which featured 65 teams. URI’s boats finished 25th, 47th, and 64th. For more about the Princeton Chase, see Charlie Adams’s article (rhodycigar.com).
Swim and Dive
Final (11/6): URI 171.5 – 103.5 Providence College
The Rams hosted the Friars at the Tootell Aquatic Center on Wednesday evening, getting back to winning ways over their Ocean State rivals. Second-year Avery Potyrala took first place in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle as well as contributing to a group win in the 200-yard medley relay. Third-year Lily Hsu took first place in one and three meter diving, followed by her teammates second-year Anna Petke and third-year Olivia Winslow.
