The University of Rhode Island Police responded to a vehicle accident resulting in the hospitalization of a pedestrian, made an arrest on domestic violence charges and responded to harassment calls during the week of Nov. 4 through Nov. 10.
Felix Okwesa, 22, was arrested at Burnside Hall on charges of domestic violence on Tuesday, Nov. 5, including disorderly conduct and simple assault. Three officers arrived on the scene at 8:14 p.m., not clearing the scene until two hours later at 10:14 p.m.
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the intersection of Lower College Road and Campus Avenue on the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 6. The pedestrian was subsequently taken to Rhode Island Hospital and the incident remains under investigation, according to Dawn Bergantino, a University of Rhode Island public information officer. The university has not released further information at this time.
Two incidents of harassment also occurred over the past week. The first instance happened on Thursday, Nov. 7 on Briar Lane and the second occurred on Friday on Upper College Road. Both incidents were found to be harassing phone calls, however neither incident resulted in an arrest or further investigation.
Two drug offenses occurred on campus this week. The first offense happened on Monday, Nov. 4 and the second occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Both offenses occurred on Complex Road and neither resulted in an arrest.
Three incidents of vandalism occurred this week. Two of the incidents included vandalism to a building. The first occurred on Monday, Nov. 4 at Heathman Hall on Butterfield Road and the second at Thirty-Acre Pond Road the same day. The last incident of vandalism occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at West Alumni Ave and Butterfield Road. Officers arrived on the scene at 12:24 p.m. and cleared it by 1:12 p.m. The vandalism was done to neither a vehicle nor a building.
