*The following is an announcement from the Cigar’s newly founded editorial board.*
The Good 5 Cent Cigar is establishing an official editorial board to address key issues at the University of Rhode Island, as well as broader community concerns. In the wake of politically disruptive executive actions, protests at the Rhode Island State House and discussion among faculty, staff and students, the Cigar aims to re-cement a firm student voice.
Composed of four experienced opinion journalists, the board will be responsible for writing, editing and publishing editorials that reflect the values of the editorial staff. Through thorough research, debate and analysis, the board will develop well-informed, unified positions on important topics while maintaining journalistic integrity.
The members of this editorial board will be the editor-in-chief, managing editor and two news editors.
This editorial board operates independently from the opinions section, which features perspectives outside of the board’s collective stance. Community members who wish to offer a perspective, contribute to the conversation or share feedback are encouraged to submit a Letter to the Editor. Letters can be signed or anonymous.
The goal of staff editorials is to uphold the Cigar’s function as the voice of URI’s student body.
