Game Guide: Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

I overplayed “Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga” when I was younger on my old black Nintendo DS. You could not tell me that I wasn’t the best at that game whenever I played it.

I can still hear the shrill R2-D2 scream every time I accidentally died in the game, and the sound the blaster’s made whenever they would shoot the lasers. I thought that this game was so cool and advanced with the different characters you could use and the weapons. Don’t even get me started on the fact that you could create custom characters too.

I have loved everything Star Wars related since I was six years old. My father showed me the original trilogy when I was younger and I immediately fell in love with Princess Leia. Carrie Fisher was my first ever celebrity crush, and I was so excited when she came back for the most recent trilogy.

I collected as many of the Lego Star Wars sets as I could, and I would pretend to play the game with the actual Lego figures when my DS was dead.

My entire family was so fed up with that game because they would constantly hear the sound effects omitting from my DS. I would replay the levels over and over again creating fake scenarios that didn’t happen in the movies but that I thought were funny.

I wanted to revisit my childhood and play the new Lego Star Wars game that was released on April 5, 2022. The Skywalker Saga is the actual complete saga, including levels and characters from all nine of the films. I was really excited for this game because I was curious if it would be better or worse than the one I played on the DS.

It was better.

In this game, you get to choose which trilogy you want to play. You can start from the “beginning” with “Episode IV- A New Hope,” or with the traditional beginning with “Episode I- The Phantom Menace,” or with the latest trilogy starting with “The Force Awakens.”

You can also now upgrade your characters abilities like their health and speed. One of my favorite features of this game is being able to travel through space freely in whatever spaceship you choose. I cannot tell you how excited I got when I was flying in the Millennium Falcon freely through deep space. With this, you can destroy comets and asteroids and even travel to planets at normal speed or at lightspeed.

In this game, you can also connect combos and fight enemies in a really cool and fun way. You can even throw lightsabers and block attacks coming your way, which you couldn’t do before. If you have a character with a blaster, you can shoot off clone troopers’ helmets and activate “pew pew” mode which allows you to target your shots.

I also really love the character redesigns, how there are more costume options for each character and how they have more detailed clothing and hair pieces. There are also 13 character packs for purchase to get a total of 300 characters, including a “Classic Character Pack” with characters like Princess Leia, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker with their original Lego designs.

The one thing about this game, however, is that it leaves out a lot of important details in the story. I understand that the game has to move along and they cut a lot of things out, but it would’ve been cool to have a longer story in the game.

Other than that, I absolutely love the game. It really did bring me back to my childhood and memories of playing the original game on my DS. It was so cool to actually hear dialogue this time instead of mumbles and grunts. I thought that the voice actors were amazing and the levels were so much fun to play.

Not all the levels were the same as the original game, but levels like Anakin, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda versus Count Dooku from “Attack of the Clones” and Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader versus Emperor Palpatine from “Return of The Jedi” were somewhat similar to the original game.

I really love this game and love playing as all my favorite Star Wars characters in an upgraded version of the game. I recommend this game to anyone who played the “Complete Saga” when they were younger and to any fan of Star Wars!
