Game Guide: Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition

I like fighting games a lot. I have got some anxiety and stress built up from a lot of things, and the way I like to get out my frustrations is by playing video games.

I have been a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise since 2018, when I downloaded the mobile version of the game. This version is based off of the 2015 release “Mortal Kombat X,” and it was so much fun. I got to play as some of my favorite characters like Liu Kang, Kitana, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jade and Mileena.

I would have loved to play the actual “Mortal Kombat X” game on the Playstation 4 (PS4), but I couldn’t afford it. I also wasn’t sure if my parents would allow me to play the game at all, but to my surprise they both were cool with it.

My mother and father said that they used to play it all the time together when they were dating, and if I don’t mind blood, guts and grotesque stuff then it’s fine.

Animated blood doesn’t bother me I should say, I’m not sure about real life though.

Anyway, I got really good at the mobile game and played it for 2 years. That is until 2021, when I deleted the mobile game because firstly, it was taking up a lot of my time and phone storage. Secondly, “Mortal Kombat 11,” the Ultimate edition with an additional story mode and 12 new characters adding onto the already 25 in the base game was available to buy on the PS4 for sale.

With this version, I automatically got all 37 characters without having to unlock any which I was very happy and excited about. I like the feeling of unlocking characters, but honestly, I’d rather have them unlocked already so I don’t have to put that much effort into getting the characters I want.

I like to play as Liu Kang mostly because he is the most famous and iconic character. He is also the one with the cheapest move that I love to spam, which is his bicycle kick. I know I know, it’s a cheap move, but I am very competitive with the computer players and I feel the need to show off.

I also love playing as Kitana and using her steel war fans. Her backstory is also the most complex and interesting to me. She was born to King Jerrod and Queen Sindel who ruled over the Edenian Kingdom and all of Outworld. However, a tyrant named Shao Kahn invaded Outworld and stole the throne from King Jerrod and took Sindel as his wife. He took Kitana as his daughter reluctantly after Sindel’s pleas and raised her as an assassin.

I won’t give her won’t go into too much detail, but eventually she found out the truth about Shao Kahn who lied to her and she joined the side of good.

What I really love the most about this game is the story mode and how everything I hated about the “Mortal Kombat X” story mode was resolved in this one. To start off, Jade was added back into the game after being absent from the previous game which a lot of fans were upset about.

What I didn’t like about “Mortal Kombat 9” and “Mortal Kombat X” was that they tried to revamp the franchise and tell an alternative story. The story led to all the main characters that everyone loves like Kung Lao, Jax, Jade and Sub-Zero to die in MK9. In MKX, those characters are still dead and the game instead focuses on the special forces team, which is the military in this game. Also, the dead characters became zombie-like creatures called “Revenants” that were under the control of the sorcerer Quan Chi.

In MK11, all the characters were “resurrected” so-to-speak by being brought from the past before they all died and placed into the present time of MK11. I really liked this because not only were the evil revenants defeated, but their living counterparts got to live in the new timeline and didn’t have to die.

The gameplay is amazing, the animation is out of this world and the production of this game is just absolutely perfect. If you have a lot of stress, anger or anxiety, I definitely suggest that you play this game. Or, if you just like fighting games, then I also recommend this game too.
