Football bounces back, fall sports draw to a close – this week in sports 11/1

Football:

FINAL (10/28): URI 34-28 UNH

URI battled it out with conference rival New Hampshire on Saturday at Meade Stadium. The game went to overtime, where the Rams would seal the deal. For more on the matchup, visit Aidan Garvey’s recap (page 12, rhodycigar.com).

Volleyball:

FINAL (10/28): SLU 3 – 0 URI

FINAL (10/29): SLU 3 – 1 URI

The Rams went down to Missouri to face off against Saint Louis University in a weekend series. URI was swept in the first match 3 – 0, and fell 3 – 1 in the second. The first matchup took place on Saturday, and saw the Billikens make quick work of the Rams. Aerin Bowman and Andrea Owens tied for the team lead with five kills each. The Rams had 20 kills on the day. The second matchup took place on Sunday, and saw the Rams with a much stronger offensive approach. Despite Bowman, Owens, and Emma Vente each having 10 kills, St. Louis got the better of Rhody and sealed the weekend series. For more on the matches, visit Nathan Robillard’s recap (rhodycigar.com).

Men’s Soccer:

FINAL (10/28): URI 2-0 Davidson

The Rams traveled to Davidson and landed themselves a clean sheet against the Wildcats on Saturday, who sat at number one in the Atlantic 10. For more on the matchup, check out David Okula’s recap (page 10, rhodycigar.com).

Women’s Swimming and Diving:

URI 183 – 108 Coast Guard

URI 196 – 99 Springfield College

URI won 12 of the 14 scored events on Saturday at the Tootell Aquatic Center where they swept Coast Guard and Springfield College. For more info on the meet, check out Abigail LePage’s recap (page 12, rhodycigar.com).

Men’s Cross Country:

Atlantic 10 Championship Meet – 7th of 15

URI traveled to Cedarville, Ohio and finished 7th place in the A-10 conference championship meet. For more information on the meet, check out Justin Theriault’s recap (rhodycigar.com).

Women’s Cross Country:

Atlantic 10 Championship Meet – 12th of 15

The Rams visited Cedarville Ohio and participated in the 6000-meter A-10 conference championship meet. Rhody finished 12th of 15 teams present, beating out VCU, St. Joseph’s and St. Bonaventure. Some top finishes include Molly Sabia who finished 41st, Hanna O’Connor who finished 55th, and Erin Hurley who finished 58th. For more on the meet, visit Nathan Robillard’s recap.

Women’s Soccer:

FINAL (10/27): La Salle 2-0 URI

URI visited La Salle University in Philadelphia on Friday where they fell 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals. For more on the match, check out Zack Petrick’s recap.
