Eras Tour returns to screen for third time with bonus footage

Taylor Swift came out with her own version of the “Eras Tour” movie which featured “cardigan” and four additional songs from the acoustic set on Thursday, March 14, on Disney Plus.

The movie is titled “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” and shows a mix of all three of her performances at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. There are two previous versions of the movie as well, the first released in theaters on Oct. 13, 2023 and the second released on Demand on Dec. 15, 2023. One main difference in the newest version is that it included all songs from the setlist.

Many Swifties, as well as myself, were upset that several songs were cut from some of the eras in the original movie to shorten the run time. The songs that got cut were “The Archer,” “Long Live” and “cardigan.” In the second version, only “cardigan” was still cut. The other three cut songs were shown at the end of the concert.

In this version, the whole three and a half hour concert was shown and all of the surprise songs from the three Los Angeles nights were included at the end of the movie. As a certified Swiftie, I was excited to watch the movie.

Since my brothers were at school, my mom was at work and my dad was in the home office the day after it came out, I took the opportunity to watch it by myself in a “Lover” inspired outfit because no one else in my family listens to Swift’s music. I chose my pink cutoff hoodie over a pink t-shirt, with my favorite white sweatpants and pink socks.

After putting my outfit together, I sat down on my brown leather reclining couch and turned the movie on. Swift rose up on the stage and I felt like I was in the concert as “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” played. I sang along to every song and my dog accompanied me during the “Fearless” and “1989” sets.

My favorite part of the movie was the black hat giveaway. This was especially touching because Swift chose Bianka, Kobe Bryant’s daughter, as the recipient of the hat to give back to the Bryant family. It was repayment to Bryant hanging a banner that commemorates every sold out performance in the Staples Center in 2015, five years before his death. Sadly, in 2020 the banner was taken down and stored away because of complaints from Lakers, Clippers and LA Kings fans.

Another touching moment was when Swift sang “marjorie,”’ which was about her late grandmother who inspired her to make music. I teared up because it made me think of my grandma who died four years ago. I was very close with her and she taught me how to appreciate music.

I also loved saying all of the fanchants in various songs. For example, while singing “Bad Blood,” a popular chant is singing one of Kendrick Lamar’s lines in the remix: “You forgive, you forget, but you never let it go.” Or, in “Bejeweled” while Swift sings “By the way, I’m going out tonight,” fans ask “Where you going Taylor?” The chants made me feel like I belonged there.

Overall, this was my favorite “Eras Tour” movie version because I felt like I was there, singing along with the Swifties. Swift is super accommodating to her fans, making sure everyone has a great experience whether it’s in person or from the comfort of your very own home.
