Russo: How good could Hawk-Tuah girl’s podcast really be?

Back in June, Haliey Welch became an overnight internet sensation for her infamous interview where she would spout her viral catch phrase: “hawk-tuah.”

Within the first 24 hours of the video’s release everyone was talking about the “Hawk-Tuah girl.” It was inescapable. Everytime you would open any social media platform, there she was.

Myself and many other people thought that she would get her 15 minutes of fame then everyone would move on. Then Welch would fade into obscurity, like many other social media memes and trends that have happened in recent years.

That was not the case at all. Haliey Welch stuck around and kept herself relevant by making appearances wherever possible and in September she launched her own podcast, properly titled “Talk Tuah.”

Despite all the silliness that may be attributed to the idea of listening to a podcast hosted by this girl who got famous off of something objectively worthless, it’s actually not that bad at all and I recommend you listen to it.

Haliey Welch actually provides a very laid back and comedic podcast. She doesn’t really have a structure to it or specific subject matter, which is a problem for me personally. However, even though I’m not a fan of these kinds of “just talking” podcasts, Welch actually provides good conversations on topics that would resonate really well with 18-25 year-olds. Especially for the women in that demographic. She speaks on topics such as dating, celebrities and pop culture, and gives a young woman’s perspective on all these subjects.

I felt I couldn’t relate to Welch as well as a woman would be able to. Regardless of that though she provides a very loose conversation structure, a good listening environment and she seems really down to earth and relatable.

My only problem with the “Talk Tuah” podcast is that I feel Welch gives her guest more time to speak than she does. Yes, I know that’s what you’re supposed to do, but I feel she makes it all about them and forgets she’s the host sometimes.

Welch has guest speakers on almost every podcast, whether they be somebody from her personal life or a rather high-profile person. One episode she had her best friend and grandma on as guest speakers, but she’s also had celebrities, such as comedian Whitney Cummings and media personality Jojo Siwa.

So I’ll conclude by saying to not be afraid to listen to the “Talk Tuah” podcast as it’s really good and very fun to listen to. If you can get over the fact that the podcast is hosted by the “Hawk-Tuah Girl” it isn’t a bad podcast in the slightest. Welch is a good host and she has a really relatable and hilarious podcast, what’s better than that? I 100% recommend you go out of your way to listen to just one episode and see what you think. Then if you don’t like it don’t listen, it’s that simple, but don’t knock it until you try it.
