winter haikus
1.
the winter stillness
not even clouds of our breath
set it in motion
2.
i wear it, the cold
as it breaches my jacket
cracks form, on my hands
3. (dual)
i bury my face
in feeble scraps of sunlight
as the day is born
but a warmth within
secret, a melody of ——
i will know come spring
4.
and after it falls,
atmospheric monochrome
this relentless white
spring haikus
1. (dual)
its march and i see
the warmth on the horizon,
the life in your eyes
still cold, but the sun
finds my face and kisses it
gently and sweetly
2. (dual)
i hold my peace tea
to my chest with tenderness
that left in winter
but it has returned
seep into my chest, my heart—
and you are here too
3.
fifty-five degrees…
and we wait, much like the trees
blooming in their time
4.
emerge from your tree,
the birds plea from the branches
i stretch out my arms
5.
a brush of a hand
the wind rustles the new leaves
and your eyelashes
6.
and to the ocean
reaching for us, and the moon
throw your stones in thanks
