The Nitro Bar is popping in popularity. This quiet coffee shop in Newport has gained fame online, with its TikTok account amassing over 462,000 followers. This not-so-hidden gem has become a staple for not only college students, but also small business supporters. This small shop has brought people from all over the country flying in to try. No, seriously, there is a TikTok trend where people travel hours to try the seasonal drinks. Lucky for us, we just have to travel 30 minutes. Imagine this: you’re scrolling through TikTok, and The Nitro Bar pops up on your “For You Page.” You feel overwhelmed, not sure where to start. Well, lucky for you, I am a Nitro Bar regular and consider myself somewhat of an expert on the menu. So without further ado, here is my list of must-haves when visiting.
Breakfast burrito
I am a true breakfast sandwich connoisseur; I am genuinely obsessed with any kind of breakfast food, from sandwiches to acai bowls. However, the breakfast burrito from The Nitro Bar takes the cake. This warm, comforting tortilla wraps scrambled eggs, avocado, chorizo, queso, black beans and pico de gallo. The mixture of the hot, steamy eggs paired with the cold pico makes the perfect combination.
Cilantro lime tofu burrito
If you are a vegetarian, I’ve got you covered. There are many vegetarian options at The Nitro Bar; one of my favorites is the cilantro lime tofu burrito. This sweet and savory tortilla is filled to the brim with roasted sweet potatoes, marinated tofu, avocado spread, black beans, pico de gallo and a fresh aioli. The aioli mixed with the marinated tofu just melts in your mouth, forming the ultimate breakfast burrito.
Ricotta tomato toast
This next suggestion serves not only as a breakfast food but also as a great lunch option. The ricotta tomato toast gets a generous amount of creamy, whipped ricotta cheese, along with fresh cherry tomatoes nestled on a toasted loaf of sourdough bread. This modern take on toast is not something you want to miss out on.
Iced chai latte
Call me basic, but the iced chai latte from The Nitro Bar is one of the best chai lattes I have ever had. The creamy chai tea mixed with the frothed milk powdered with zesty cinnamon offers the perfect balance between sweetness and spice. My suggestion is to get it with oat milk, as I feel whole milk overpowers the flavor. However, no matter what milk you get, this drink will not disappoint you.
Pizza bagel
A pizza bagel at a coffee shop? The answer is yes, yes and you guessed it… yes. My friend from Boston came up and tried The Nitro Bar’s pizza bagel, and she said it was nothing short of fantastic. This bagel gets a thin layer of marinara sauce, topped with fresh mozzarella. The steam oozes out of the bagel after every bite and fills those nostalgic cravings you might have.
The Nitro Bar stands out, not only because of its unique drinks, but also its mouthwatering food. This Newport one-of-a-kind spot has something for everyone. So, my only question is… what will you try first?
