No charges will be filed over a crash that killed former University of Rhode Island Memorial Union director Maureen McDermott last fall.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Campus Avenue and Lower College Road. McDermott was reportedly struck after the driver turned left on Campus Avenue.
The collision occurred on Nov. 6. McDermott died shortly after on Nov. 15 2024.
Speed played no part in the collision’s result, according to URI Police.
The court has since ordered a summons to be issued at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal, according to a report from WJAR. The summons will be issued on driving violations for laned roadway, manner of turn at an intersection and failure to yield at a crosswalk.
After thorough overview over surveillance footage and witness statements, the driver will face no criminal charges, WJAR said.
