Sadie Brandt – Editor-in-Chief crank 2 – Slayyyter There isn’t much that Slayyyter can’t cure, including a case of horrid senior-itis. The long-awaited sequel to my spring anthem “CRANK,” otherwise known as the loudest song ever created, doesn’t disappoint. Packed with Slayyyter’s trademark tongue-twisting lyrics and backed by tornado sirens, “crank 2” is as chaotic…
Sadie Brandt – Editor-in-Chief: I’ve been listening to an absurd amount of music this summer, primarily because I have nothing to do except lie about and get way too invested in “Love Island USA.” As the days blend together into an amalgamation of nothingness, I’ve been blasting “Free.99” by Malcolm Todd, who has gotten me…
Sadie Brandt – Editor-in-Chief: What a semester and month it’s been. I’ve been trying to keep things light and airy, which has been assisted by my loves Slayyyter and Slovak pop-star Adéla. The latter’s “SexontheBeat” has been in the background all month as I run around campus with an energy drink in one hand and…
I haven’t stopped because I can’t get enough of the latest film from director Antoine Fuqua, “Michael,” a biopic following the early life of music icon Michael Jackson. This film is a biopic following the life of music icon Jackson and how he rose from a poor child from Gary, Ind, to a global superstar….
Rosé Toi: Aura Chief – Vaping or Zyn-ing. If you’re going to have a crippling addiction, don’t look like you’re sucking on a USB stick or chewing tobacco like a 1960s man. Have some decorum and smoke a cigarette. Fella Squirtz: Sadie’s Assistant – My ick is men who are so controlling of their girlfriends,…
Sadie Brandt: Editor-in-Chief It’s been a long shortest month of the year. Whenever I’ve needed a pick-me-up, which has been frequently, I’ve turned to PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s sunny remix of “Stateside.” I’ve blasted it before nights out, walking across campus in the rain and while my power was out for 36 hours during a…
Ellie Sennhenn: For my final staff pick of the semester, and my final staff pick in the history of the Cigar, I will have to choose “Pool” by Samia. Specifically, the NPR Tiny Desk Concert version. Released in 2020, this beautiful alternative indie tune was a staple for me this month. The lyrics “How much…
Maia Hembruff: This November I surprisingly changed my ways and became a podcast enjoyer — so this month I have to offer you a podcast rather than a tune. I love locking in to a good podcast during my daily commutes, and when I get through “The Daily” episode from The New York Times, I…
Staff picks 10/30 Ellie Sennhenn: Fighting that looming seasonal depression, I found solace in Chance Peña’s song “The Mountain Is You.” This is a beautiful anthem of self discovery and the journey of finding yourself again after a long winter, a rough bout of stress or internal hardship. It is easy to feel lost in…
Ellie Sennhenn: Another staff pick, another absolutely gut-wrenching, crying-in-the-car and intensely lyrical recommendation of mine. I have had Jake Minch’s album “George” on blast all month long. The song “For Leaving” has become a twisted sort of anthem for me, and it unfolds like a dusty photo album laid out in a late-afternoon sun: nostalgic,…
