Men’s Basketball

FINAL (2/28): Saint Joseph’s University 61-55 URI
FINAL (3/4): URI 64-52 Duquesne University
Rhode Island dropped two games before bouncing back with a win over Duquesne University. With the win, URI secured a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 tournament. The Rams will look to close out their season with a much-needed win over Fordham University on Saturday. Women’s Basketball
FINAL (2/28): URI 72-48 George Washington University
The Rhode Island women’s basketball team ended its regular season with a blowout win over the Revolutionaries to become regular-season Atlantic 10 Conference champions.
URI had three players in double figures: second-year Palmire Mbu with 23 points, fourth-year Brooklyn Gray with 11 points and second-year Albina Syla with 10 points.

Men’s Track & Field
Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship (2/27-28): First of nine teams
The URI men’s track and field team won its sixth consecutive A-10 indoor championship over the weekend and 17th in program history.
Rhody also took home additional hardware as Trent Baltzell was named A-10 Coach of the Year, sixth-year Matt Santy won Most Outstanding Field Performer, third-year Nick Martin won Most Outstanding Track Performer and first-year Lucas Andrade won Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. Women’s Track & Field
Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship (2/27-28): Second of 13 teams
Rhode Island nearly came away with an A-10 championship but was defeated by Virginia Commonwealth University by just 2.5 points. Fourth-year Lily Saul placed first in both the mile and the 1,000- meter. First-year Zarah Singleton won the 60-meter hurdles. The Rams also finished first in the 4×400-meter relay. Women’s Tennis
FINAL (2/28): URI 4-0 Le Moyne University
FINAL (3/1): URI 4-0 Siena University
The URI women’s tennis team bounced back after a 7-0 loss to Brown University by picking up dominant wins over Le Moyne and Siena this weekend. First-year Kajsa Helgesen won her team- leading 10th singles match and went 2-0 in doubles over the weekend as well. URI didn’t lose a singles or doubles match over the entire weekend. Women’s Lacrosse
FINAL (2/28): URI 13-7 Merrimack College
The Rams got to a 7-1 lead early over Merrimack. which proved to be enough for their second win of the season. Third-year Caralie Basuel and second-year Kate Cumins both had three goals, leading the Rhody attack. For more details about the win, read Tyler Pinherio’s article (rhodycigar.com).
Baseball
FINAL (2/27): Kent State University 8-7 URI (13 inn.)

FINAL (2/28): Kent State 12-3 URI
The URI baseball team got swept by the Golden Flashes over the weekend to remain winless on the year, falling to 0-10 on the season. The opening game was competitive and even went into extra innings, but a walk-off blast from second-year Sawyer Solitaria won it for Kent State. Golf
Sam Ryder Invitational (3/2-3): T-11th of 14 teams
Rhode Island didn’t have its best outing at the Sam Ryder Invitational. Finishing tied for 11th out of 14 teams. Second-year Tyler Bruneau shot one-under and went two-under over his last 11 holes to finish 20th on the individual leaderboard out of the 84-player field.
