Women’s Basketball

FINAL (3/6): URI 71-64 Loyola University Chicago

FINAL (3/7): URI 55-46 Davidson College

FINAL (3/8): URI 53-51 George Mason University

The University of Rhode Island Rams are Atlantic 10 Champions, as this week the Rams traveled to Virginia to compete in the A-10 Tournament, where the Rams lived up to their No. 1 seed. In their first game of the tournament, the Rams had five scorers in double digits. In game two, second-year Albina Syla dominated with 22 points. In the championship game, fourth-year Brooklyn Gray played hero for the Rams with a team-high 16 points. For more about the tournament, read Charlie Adams’ article (page 1, rhodycigar.com). 

Men’s Basketball

FINAL (3/7): Fordham University 61-49 URI 

The Rams dropped their final game of the regular season, finishing the year 16-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play. Third-year Jahmere Tripp shined with 18 points. For more about the game and the Rams’ recent ups and downs, read Abby LePage’s article (page 12, rhodycigar.com). 


Golf 

Surf Golf and Beach Club Invitational (3/9-10): Seventh of 18 teams

In the Rams’ endless quest to avoid the New England winter weather, they traveled to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete at the Surf Golf and Beach Club Invitational. The Rams finished seventh as a team, shooting six-under par. Fourth-year Aidan O’Donovan was the team’s top performer, finishing tied for fourth place at 10-under par. Women’s Lacrosse

FINAL (3/6): George Washington University 13-7 URI

FINAL (3/11): URI 7-6 Siena University

The Rams’ early-season struggles continued in their first conference game of the season against the Revolutionaries. The Rams never led in this game. In their last non-conference game, the Rams snuck past Siena on two goals from second-year Kate Cumins. Baseball

FINAL (3/7): Brown University 3-2 URI 

FINAL (3/7): Brown 7-5 URI 

FINAL (3/8): URI 19-9 Brown 

FINAL (3/10): URI 11-0 New Haven University

The Rams were able to pick up their first two wins of the season, but they still dropped a series against their in-state rival. The offense dazzled in their lone win against Brown, pouring on 19 runs, six of those runs coming off the bat of fourth-year Ryan Henschel, who hit two home runs and a triple. In their game against New Haven, Henschel would hit a grand slam, and the pitching was superb, getting their first shutout of the year. Softball

FINAL (3/7): Saint Joseph’s University 6-3 URI

FINAL (3/7): Saint Joseph’s 8-0 URI

FINAL (3/8): Saint Joseph’s 7-0 URI 

Following their previous two contests being canceled, the Rams were stomped by St. Joe’s in a three-game series where they were outscored 21-3. Read more about the series in Ryan McKenna’s article (rhodycigar.com).


Men’s Track & Field 

New England Indoor Championship (3/6-7): First of 23 teams

The Rams won their sixth-straight New England Indoor Championship. The Rams were led by third-year Alex Arbogast, who captured the 60-meter title with a time of 6.77 seconds, and many others on their way to scoring 149 team points. Women’s Track & Field

New England Indoor Championship (3/6-7): First of 22 teams

The Rams, for the second time in as many years, are New England Indoor Champions. The Rams had four individual titles, led by fourth-year Lily Saul, taking first place in the 1,000-meter with a meet record time of 2:44.12. Women’s Tennis

FINAL (3/7): Quinnipiac University 4-0 URI

FINAL (3/8): URI 6-1 Stonehill College

Following a tough loss that saw the Bobcats take care of the Rams in convincing fashion, the Rams took their frustration out on the Skyhawks.
