Meus and Mews Tavern make partnership with new menu item

Mews Tavern in Wakefield has partnered with fourth-year linebacker Moses Meus of the University of Rhode Island football team to create a new menu item.

Meus, a Pawtucket native, was a guest on the Jim Fleming Coaches Show on Nov. 20, 2025, hosted at the restaurant.

Fleming encouraged Meus to meet with General Manager George McAuliffe after Meus expressed an interest in collaborating with the restaurant.

“I had found out about Mews Tavern my freshman year, but I felt like I wanted to wait for the right time for this opportunity,” Meus said.

After recording the show, McAuliffe spoke with Meus, sparking the idea for a partnership.

“I met him, and I just jokingly said to him and the coach that we need to do a deal with him,” McAuliffe said. “I mean, we had to. Moses Meus at the Mews, I couldn’t believe it.”

A year later, McAuliffe and Meus bumped into each other and ended up putting the deal together.

“We’ve been involved with the university sports programs for about 16 years,” McAuliffe said. “This is our first kind of foray into the [name, image and likeness] world, but it just seemed like a natural progression. He’s such a good kid that we decided to go forward with him.”

Meus and Mews’ partnership was officially announced on Sept. 17, including “The Moses Mews burger” along with a meal of the month and exclusive videos.

“The burger was one of those ideas that I had thought of,” Meus said. “I brought this proposal to [McAuliffe], and he thought it was amazing and he even had some ideas that he wanted to implement himself.”

In a video posted across Meus’ social media platforms on Sept. 30, Meus prepared his namesake burger step-by-step. It contains pepper jack cheese, black pepper bacon, pickled onions and a secret “Moses Meus sauce.”

The not-so-secret ingredients are ketchup, mayonnaise and however much buffalo sauce you desire.

“The special sauce is something that I pretty much eat with almost everything, but I know it goes great on a burger,” Meus said. “It was just ideas from a combination of things, my favorite sauce and certain Mews burgers.”

On Tuesday, Meus partnered with McDonald’s for URI’s Quad Fest, handing out specialty beverages and exclusive merchandise to students.

“Being from a state that’s so small, making a huge impact from within, is just amazing,” Meus said. “People from Pawtucket and Providence are seeing what I’m doing, and it’s had a huge impact on them.”

Meus, a human development major, has consistently volunteered in his community, having coached youth flag football over the summer.

As he continues his senior year in the football program, Meus continues working on and off the field.

“I love to put myself out there for the right reasons,” Meus said. “I’m just working and figuring out what’s the best plan for me.”

The Moses Burger is now available for purchase at Mews Tavern for $20.
