A former URI student is returning to campus to finish what he started – pledging Sigma Chi. Ed Johnson, a 58-year-old from Cranston, Rhode Island, attended URI back in 1975. He began pledging after the fraternity opened up their house for him to live in because there was no other housing available. After having to leave URI and finish his education elsewhere, he went on to serve in the air force for 30 years. Johnson ran into an alumnus of Sigma Chi later in life who re-introduced him to the idea. Now, about 40 years later, Johnson is pledging the fraternity, a chance he thought he would never get back.Â
