Holiday fun around campus

Today marks the beginning of December. That means it is officially “the most wonderful time of the year.” But with the holidays so close, it is easy to feel stressed about finals, holiday shopping and moving back to your parents’ house for break. Luckily, the stress doesn’t have to consume you. Check out these fun events around campus to help de-stress from all the holiday fear and instead spread some holiday cheer.

Musician’s Guild presents: Worst X-Mas Ever; Dec. 2

Returning from Thanksgiving Break is never an easy adjustment. The sudden rush of last minute projects and papers before finals begin can really bring a mood down. The Musician’s Guild is countering this feeling by bringing a night filled with local music and festive sweaters. Support local musicians this Friday by bringing your best holiday attire and your worst dance moves.

Tickets are $3 for URI students, $5 for GA. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Memorial Union Atrium.

Newport Mansions Holiday Tour; Dec. 3

On Dec. 3rd, Newport’s The Breakers and Marble House mansions get decked out for the holiday season. Walk through the grand buildings and see all the sparkling lights, trees, and ornaments that surround you. After the tours, roam around Newport and discover some of the beautiful sights the island has to offer.

Tickets are $10 and are sold through Ram Tours in the Memorial Union Box Office.

Stress Relief Day; Dec. 7

Papers, projects, presentations: a lot of assignments are thrown at students during this time of year. Get tips from Health Service’s Health Education Department on how to fight the stress of it all. Located in Union Square of the Memorial Union, this Stress Relief Day will be sure to give you a chance to kick back and relax.

Stress Relief Day will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

URI Annual Holiday Mini Mall; Dec. 7-8

Everybody has that one family member, or maybe more than one, that they can never seem to find the perfect gift for. Luckily, URI has a solution for that. On Dec. 7 – 8, head to the Memorial Union Ballroom to browse through the shops of many local retailers. With dozens of shops all in one place, the mini mall is sure to alleviate some of the stress of holiday shopping.

The Mini Mall is located in the Memorial Union Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Electronic Wonderland; Dec. 9

In need of a night where you can just let go and enjoy some good music with friends? Then head on over to the 193 Coffeehouse in the Memorial Union for a night of electronic music and holiday cheer. Presented by URI’s Electronic Music Association, the Electronic Wonderland will feature DJs: Boltcutter, Qu3zada, Manamiz and DJ X2.

Tickets are $1 for URI students, $2 for GA. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the 193 Coffeehouse.
