Club Profile: Film Collaborative and URI TV Network

Have you ever been interested in working in television or film? Perhaps you’d like to work with the University of Rhode Island’s TV Network or Film Collaborative. These two student groups work on various film projects throughout the semester.

The TV Network utilizes the television studio located in Chafee Hall, Room 217. The television studio features a stage, three stage cameras, and a full functioning light and sound room. Working with URI’s TV Network you can get first-hand experience with studio cameras and sound or lighting equipment. The club is comprised of students of all ages and from various URI majors who share a love for creativity and entertainment. They have worked on various projects in the past including “Barrett Tonight,” a late night styled comedy show. Many of their past projects can be found on YouTube.com/URITVNetwork.

They will also be working on new projects this semester to upload to YouTube. The URI TV Network meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in Swan Hall, room 309 during the school year. Noah Levy, the club president, said the semester will begin with some brainstorming sessions. “I’d love to do a fake news type show given the world climate,” he said. “But I don’t know how we’d go about it.”

The TV Network’s basic information can be found on the URI Harrington College of Communications website, under student groups. They are welcoming writers and actors who want to collaborate and be a part of their program.

Speaking of collaborating, the URI Film Collaborative also meets on Wednesday nights, but at 6 p.m., and in the screening room of the Hub in Ranger Hall. The group has various completed films and videos which can be found at YouTube.com/URIFilmCollaborative.

“We have a project we want to discuss from last semester,” said Film Collaborative President Brian LeBlanc. “We planned to make a short mockumentary last semester, which we wrote a screenplay for, though we couldn’t quite fit it in the end of the semester. That will probably be the first project we do. We will also be brainstorming some new projects.”

Both the TV Network and Film Collaborative have weekly meetings on Wednesdays but they film their shows and movies at various times throughout the week. Both groups accept walk in members to their weekly meetings, if you’d like to join, visit http://harrington.uri.edu/about-main/student-experience/student-groups/tv-network/ for the TV Network or http://harrington.uri.edu/about-main/student-experience/student-groups/film-collaborative/ for the Film Collaborative.
