Senior Food Service Administrator Dominic Ferraro discussed the relocation of the Daily Grind, the coffee stand in the 24-hour study room in the Robert L. Carothers Library, into the Mother’s Room, which is in the room right behind the stand. There was also discussion of some changes to current beverage options.

Ferraro also said that Dining Services was looking to replace the current Starbucks coffee line with a brand known as Peet’s Coffee. This would extend to all the dining facilities, including the Hope and Butterfield dining halls.

The main concern amongst Senators was the fate of the Mother’s Room, which allows for room in the third floor of the library.

The move would allow for more seating in the 24-hour room, provide a more stable flow of customer traffic and with the extra space the move could allocate for food storage, expand the menu.

In addition to changes to The Daily Grind, Ferraro discussed the opening of the Hope and Butterfield dining halls, for parents and new students, as part of the URI Welcome Days. The dining halls will be open three saturdays in April–April 1, 8 and 22. The Ram’s Den will be open earlier to provide for a higher volume of customers. Hope will reopen for current students at 2 p.m.

After discussion of dining services on campus ended, Student Organization Advisory Review Committee (SOARC) Chairwoman Samantha King presented a bill to recognize the Korean Students Association, a group that has not been a recognized club for about six years. The group teaches members about Korean culture, language and musical customs, as well as putting on culture shows to display Korean music. The group has about 40 members.

The bill was then voted on, and the Korean Students Association was recognized unanimously.
College of Nursing Liaison Shannon McIsaac spoke before the senate, and said that while there is nothing currently up on ‘e-campus’ for nursing classes in Providence, the move is still happening without a doubt. The College of Nursing is also restructuring the advising of nursing students, with much of the curriculum currently under review.
