Student Senate report: 11/15

At the Student Senate meeting on Wednesday night, there was heated debate regarding revisions to Article III, which discusses the constituency of housing representatives, of the Senate Bylaws.

One clause specifically bothered the members of the Student Senate. The clause stated that housing representatives were required to live in the areas they represent. This was added to the bill due to concerns about how well an elected official can represent a student body in one area when they live in another. Some Senators were worried about enforcement. Eventually, after a lot of heated debate that clause was stricken from the bill. It was also decided that the bill would be voted on next Senate meeting because of some confusion among Senators.

There was a report in reference to the new dorm being built. The President of Student Senate will be in contact with Director of Parking and Transportation Services Joe Paradise and Director of Public Safety Stephen Baker to go over how the development will affect student parking. They will discuss future plans and information to come.

Commuter Appreciation Day is still being planned by members of the Senate. They are currently looking into different catering options. Coffee House and Dunkin Donuts are being considered for this event.

The last interview for the dining services director will take place this Thursday at 5 p.m. Some Senators will be there during the interview
