The University of Rhode Island women’s soccer team finished their non-conference schedule with a 5-0 loss to Brown University on Sunday afternoon.
The Rams faced a stout defense on the day, conceding 19 shots during the game. Senior Haley Brennan made five saves in the first half, while Julia Freeman ended the match with three saves of her own.
While the Rams remain winless through eight games, they have had numerous close calls throughout the season. Six of their losses have come by only one goal, including two games where the Rams fell during overtime play.
As the team heads into conference play, forwards Brooke Osmanski and Kelly Mayo are the leading scorers for the team with two goals apiece. Freshman Rebecca D’Anna has recorded three assists from the midfield position.
On the opposite end of the field, Brennan has saved 28 shots that have came her way, and Freeman has stopped 15 shots from going in the back of the net. Both goalies have identical save percentages of 68 percent.
Rhody opens up their Atlantic 10 schedule with a match against George Washington in the Nation’s Capital on Thursday afternoon in what will be the conference opener for both teams. The Colonials are coming off a home loss to James Madison, so each team will be looking to bounce back after defeats in their previous games.
The Rams will return home for their conference opener on Sunday against the University of Massachusetts. It will be URI’s first home game since Aug. 30 as they look to beat UMass for the first time since 2014. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex.
