Election Platforms Spring 2019

At-Large

Ryan Menard
My name is Ryan Menard and I am running for a seat on the URI Student Senate.  During my term with Student Senate I have helped to create a better dining menu, worked with the Administration to address the growing issue of student employment, and lobbied for an increase in student parking.  If given the opportunity to continue to serve the URI community I would continue to support the best interests of all students.

Ryan McWeeney
I am running for reelection to senate as an At-Large representative on a simple promise to always fight on behalf of the student body. For years I have seen senate fail to effectively represent student interests, instead choosing to focus on internal issues. I plan to pursue initiatives on issues such as better outreach to clubs and conducting more opinion polls of the student body. I respectively ask for your vote this election season.

Mitchell Asante

Hello everyone, My name is Mitchell Asante and I am a Political Science major. I am currently a Freshman Representative on Senate. I am seeking your support to represent the general interests of the student body as an At-Large Representative. I am ready to tackle issues such as parking, improvement of dining hall options and incorporating Sakai, Starfish and E-Campus onto one platform. As a Senator, I will make sure to be a voice for everyone. Hope you vote for me!!

Kaylee Goyette
Hi everyone! My name is Kaylee Goyette and I am running to be your At-Large Representative. Last semester I was internally elected to this position and it would be an honor serve in this role again. I want to pursue more independent study rooms, increase vegan and gluten free options in
the dining halls, and make URI a more welcoming place. I believe communication is a key element necessary to represent the diverse student body.

Jay Rumas
I am a political science/history major running for reelection to continue advancing important student goals! I have successfully advocated for:
 Election Day classes to be cancelled
 The staggering of shuttle arrival times, making transportation more efficient
I will continue to push for:
 The investigation of tuition increases
 Dorm renovations for health and handicap accessibility
 Holding faculty accountable for instances of harassment in classrooms
 The proper compensation of our student employees on holidays and Sundays

Leila Cox
I am Leila Cox, a First-Year studying Communications and Journalism. In Rhode Island, the issue of Cultural Competence within the education system needs to be dealt with. I believe, Cultural Competence is a key component in establishing a viable educational journey for students of all race, color, and national origin. With righteous experience in advocacy for more
representation and appreciation of diversity, as your representative, 23% will be more than just a low statistic.

Lulu Alryati
I am Lulu Alryati, a first-year Nursing major on the Pre-Law track with a Psychology minor. Just like you, I have a lot of different expectations of this University and its ideals. Primarily focusing on the realistic diversity and the proper inclusion of all of those on campus, I plan to make it my duty to successfully represent you and the individuality you bring. Help me create the all-inclusive change at URI!

Bolu Taiwo
Hello, I am Bolu and I am running for At-Large Representative. I am running for this position because I feel as though minorities are not adequately represented within senate. Presidential and Vice-Presidential Primary Platforms

Zachary Taylor/ John Bagley
We are running for Student Body President and Vice President to lend a hand to studen organizations. We will lead the Senate to work much closer with student organizations toward fulfilling their missions and acting on issues they care about. With nearly two decades in combined leadership
experience within and outside the Senate, we will provide more than enough resources for meeting concrete goals shared by organizations through securing useful relationships and exploring financial options.
We will investigate issues of student payroll, tuition, and the URI Budget; advocate a new CSIC Recreation Center; implementing renovations for the Fine Arts Center; the exploration and creation of a Gender Coalition; electronic voting; streamlining financial paperwork; and strengthening relations with the Providence Campus. VOTE YES ON CSIC REFERENDUM!!

Nicolette St. Amand/ Johnny Morabito
Hello! We are running for Student Body President and Vice President. With our experiences together we have formed a vision for the future of our organization and campus. We want to reunite and redefine our campus so it feels more like a home. To help us do this we have a few ideas we want to work on. We want to advocate for more affordable textbooks through OER. We also want to find a better solution to parking to help the most amount of students. We want to work with Culture of Respect on Sexual Assault Prevention, work with various facilities like the Women’s Center, Gender and Sexuality Center, the MSSC, and more! Lastly, we want to better
our mental health resources on campus.

Nick Marotta/Amanda Marino
Hey Rams! We are so excited to be running for President and Vice President of our Student Senate. We are going to be hard at work, fixing many issues as well as implementing new plans to benefit ALL students at URI. Some of these plans include parking reform, an advertising overhaul, achieving sustainability goals, a new health initiative, a multicultural plan to promote equality across campus, and finally, creating a framework to better integrate Greek Life and Senate whenever possible. All of our plans can be viewed in detail on our campaign instagram, @marottamarino19. We’ll see you there! Thing Bigger, We Do!
