With the beginning of season 15 of the “Bachelorette,” comes much more drama and excitement, but for those in the Rhode Island area, even more is in the near future. Newport will soon become the backdrop of Hannah Brown’s season of the “Bachelorette.”

The “Bachelorette’s” production companies, Next Entertainment and Telepictures Productions, sent a letter to the city council in Newport, Rhode Island requesting permission to film the part of the season in various locations from March 21 to March 31.

The producer’s list of locations include the Cliff Walk, Fort Adams State Park and its Eisenhower House, Belle Mer, Narragansett Bay, White Horse Tavern, Belcourt Castle and outside of Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina. The episode will also include the cast walking around historic Bannister’s Wharf and stop into two restaurants: The Black Pearl and Clarke Cooke House.

They requested that all locations be private for their filming and they will provide any security depending on the location and the event.

There is still hope for those of us who hope to get our 15 minutes of fame. The producers highlighted the Jane Pickens Theater as a place for a musical performance/private concert. As seen on past seasons, they often have extras in the crowd at concerts to add to the ambiance. For my sorority house, Monday nights are always a sacred evening. Everyone files into the chapter room and plops down in front of the TV ready to watch the drama unfold. Even those who are not fans of the Bachelor join in on the action.

Senior University of Rhode Island Student Olivia Silver, is among those who don’t particularly follow the Bachelor, but joins in solely for the hype. Silver is known for being an avid fan of all things reality TV, but when asked about the filming of the “Bachelorette” in Newport, she wasn’t as enthused and doesn’t see the hype. She also said that she wouldn’t go out of her way to see it filmed when she can just wait a few weeks for it to be aired on TV.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if a lot of people went to Newport just to watch it get filmed,” Silver said.

While on the other hand, sophomore Vanessa Gagnon, of the filming of the “Bachelorette” in Newport she was ecstatic.

“This is amazing,” Gagnon exclaimed. “Let’s go see them film it!”

When asked if she was going to Newport this Thursday to see if she could catch a glimpse of Hannah Brown and her 33 suitors, Gagnon was determined.

“Yes of course,” Gagon said. “This is my debut. I’m going to steal one of her men.”

Of course, not all fans of the “Bachelorette” who go to Newport in search of the crew will have the same mindset. However, come this Thursday, I will be driving over to Newport in hopes of seeing Hannah or her 33 suitors. Who knows I may be lucky enough to get on camera or to get spoilers before the season airs on Monday, May 13.
