The Student Entertainment Committee and Platinum Entertainment Group are just two groups that pride themselves on providing entertainment options for students, and plan to bring a wide-array of performers to Kingston this fall.

This Monday, SEC announced that Rapper Juice Wrld is coming to the Ryan Center to perform on Oct. 10 for their annual semester concert. The 20-year-old rapper from Chicago had his previous album, “Death Race For Love,” debut at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart. His most famous song, “Lucid Dreams,” reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

“We want to have events that people will be excited to go to,” said Maren Drake, a sophomore SEC member. “We hope that having him [Juice Wrld] will encourage students to come out and enjoy the concert.”

The group is also responsible for John Mulaney coming to the Ryan Center this fall for Alumni and Family Weekend. Mulaney, the Emmy-nominated comedian who wrote for Saturday Night Live and has held various stand-up shows on Netflix, will be performing on Friday, Oct. 25. The event is sold out.

Platinum Entertainment Group, who is not directly affiliated with the University, is responsible for their own events this fall. The organization is holding a concert featuring Young Thug and Machine Gun Kelly with special guest YBN Nahmir at the Ryan Center. Young Thug, who won a Grammy for songwriting on the hit “This Is America,” had his most recent album debut at number one on the Billboard Top 200.

Alyssa Pasniewski, a promoter for the group, explained why students should attend the concert.

“People should go to the concert because it is a fun thing to do with your friends and it is a chance to meet more friends while you are there,” Pasniewski said.

She added that the group will be holding another concert this semester that will be announced in the future. The concert is expected to take place towards the end of the semester.

Drake said the process of scheduling talent is a group decision, as comedians and singers fall under the special events committee. The group and anyone else who is interested in attending shoutout names that they think students would be interested in seeing. After the targets are finalized, Drake said the group hands over the list to their advisor who has all the contact information for potential performers.

Pasniewski said that PEG has a similar process for choosing artists. A message gets sent out in their group chat, and when it is decided who the group wants, their advisor takes over and handles the scheduling.

Drake said that SEC’s Instagram and Twitter pages are where they announce new and upcoming events. Both groups advertise through flyers hung around campus as well. They can be found @urisec.

Students tickets for Juice Wrld can be bought now at The Ryan Center box office or by visiting their website at www.ryancenter.com. Public tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 13.

Tickets for Young Thug and Machine Gun Kelley can be purchased at the box office in the Memorial Union.
