VCU continues dominance, remains on top — Atlantic 10 men’s basketball power rankings

URI dropped third-straight game as they struggle to climb from the bottom three spots

Seven different Schools in the Atlantic 10 – The University of Rhode Island, Virginia Commonwealth University, Duquesne, Dayton, George Washington, Saint Joseph’s and Stony Brook – all had affiliates with their respective student newspapers fill out a men’s basketball power ranking for the Atlantic 10. Here are how things stand:

15th: Loyola Chicago (-)

Having dropped their last two games vs. Saint Joseph’s and Richmond, Loyola’s conference record dropped to 2-10 this week. As a result, Loyola continues to stay at the bottom of the A-10 as the regular season winds to a close.

14th: Davidson (-)

Having dropped their last game against Fordham, Davidson remains in 14th as they dropped to 4-8 in conference play.

13th: Rhode Island (-1)

Having dropped their last two games against St. Louis and George Mason, the Rams are still winless on the road this season. The losing run saw them fall from being tied for 12th to 13th this week.

12th: UMass (-1)

Following losses to Fordham and La Salle, UMass continues to fall as they have dropped their last four games. They look to turn this losing streak around as they take on Loyola Chicago on Tuesday.

11th: Richmond (-2)

After splitting their last two games vs. Loyola (74-71 win) and George Washington (107-105 loss), Richmond falls two down to 11th now as they look to regroup against La Salle on Wednesday to try and improve from 6-7 in conference play.

10th: George Mason (-2)

George Mason has split their last two against URI (75-67 win) and Duquesne (75-52 loss). They fell down yet again as they now drop another two places, having dropped five over this two week span.

9th: La Salle (+3)

La Salle is tied for largest jump in the rankings, currently on a four game win streak. La Salle has been playing hot as of recently, having won their last four games, and they look to improve from the middle of the pack into being a top team in the A-10.

8th: George Washington (-)

George Washington is a team that remains in the middle of the pack this week as they split their last two games against Richmond (107-105 win) and Saint Joseph’s (81-69 loss). They haven’t improved from their .500 record in conference yet.

7th: Saint Joseph’s (+3)

Currently on a two-game win streak against Loyola and George Washington, and having improved to 7-6 in conference play, Saint Joseph’s is tied for the largest jump this week having previously been ranked at 10th. They look to continue to climb up the standings in their effort to finish in the top five in the A-10.

6th: St. Bonaventure (-1)

Having lost their last two games, St. Bonaventure drops down one place this week. Losses against La Salle and Duquesne saw their record in conference drop to 7-6 as they moved closer to the .500 mark. St. Bonaventure looks to get back on track as they take on Fordham on Wednesday.

5th: Duquesne (-)

Duquesne sits at number five after having previously been tied for fifth, as they are also on a three game win streak with wins against George Washington, George Mason, and St. Bonaventure. Although they have not moved in this ranking, they now solely hold 5th place.

4th: Saint Louis (-2)

After dropping their last game against Dayton, Saint Louis dropped down from 2nd to 4th. They look to start their climb back into the top three as they prepare to host Davidson this week.

3rd: Fordham (+1)

Having won their last two games against Davidson and UMass, Fordham continues to climb as they move their way into third place atop of the A-10.

2nd: Dayton (+1)

Dayton is coming off of two huge wins against Saint Louis and VCU, two teams atop the A-10, as they continue to make strides to take the number one spot away from VCU.

1st: VCU (-)

VCU won against Saint Louis but lost to Dayton this week, as the VCU Rams continue to sit atop the A-10 as they have a 9-3 record in conference play. VCU are looking to hold this spot atop the A-10 as they try to fend off Dayton and Fordham as the regular season comes to a close, with both teams making moves for the top spot.
