This past Friday, the University of Rhode Island Musician’s Guild hosted another concert featuring local bands Foxtails, Minus Points and T!lt. This was hosted inside the Memorial Union Ballroom where many moshed.

The whole event was put together by Matt Delaney, president of the Musician’s Guild and third-year student at URI.

“I’ve been running things for the last semester and a half,” Delaney said. “This was like my fourth concert that I’ve run through Musician’s Guild.”

The past few concerts that he headed featured artists of the pop-punk variety, with Green Day covers aplenty, however this time, it was decided to shake up the sound.

“We’re bringing in some way heavier bands,” Delaney said. “We have this hardcore punk band opening, then we’re going with this grunge-punk band and then we’re ending it with Foxtails, a really awesome experimental, punky-emo band.”

Delaney also noted that he has been a fan of Foxtails, one of the performers, for a good while, and was excited to see them along with the other bands play.

When the night came, a good amount of people piled into the Union’s ballroom eagerly waiting for the chaos that would ensue. The first band up was Minus Points, a three piece whose setlist consisted of several songs named and revolving around various different video games such as Final Fantasy and the Legend of Zelda, with all of it being wrapped up in an aggressive punk sound. They also announced that they were going to be releasing their first album this June as well.

The next band up was T!lt, a four piece band decked out with long hair and even longer dresses which they all performed in. Their sound comes from a mixture of various different musical acts, and they’ve cited inspiration from various bands such as the Beatles, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance and many more.

Last, but not least, Foxtails were up to perform. They’re another four piece band with a more unique instrumental arrangement, of course they have drums, bass, guitar, but they also have a violin too. Out of all the bands that performed, they’ve been the ones who’ve been playing together for the longest amount of time. They’ve released several albums since 2015, and their unique experimental sound captured everyone’s attention and got them going crazy.

A bit too crazy though, as during the middle of Foxtail’s setlist the lights were flicked on and a group of medical personnel entered the room and escorted a person out. This had everyone turning their heads, and it wasn’t revealed until later that the person broke their nose, but they were okay and everything resumed.

Despite that occurrence many people enjoyed the concert. “I really liked it,” one attendee said, and when asked what they thought of it they simply stated, “Loud,” and left it at that.

Delaney said he’d love to have the bands come back and perform at another Musician’s Guild concert again in the future.

Hopefully, this means that we’ll be able to see more amazing and unique bands perform here at URI in the near future.
