FOOTBALL

FINAL(9/30): URI 49-26 Bryant 

The Rams got back to winning ways on Saturday, returning home on Family Weekend with a 49-26 win over in-state rival Bryant University at Meade Stadium. Despite going down early, a blocked punt and a fourth and one stop in the second quarter saw Rhode Island re-take the lead, one from which they never looked back in the second half. MEN’S SOCCER

FINAL (9/30): URI 0-2 St. Louis 

FINAL (10/4): URI -/- George Mason

The Rams started the week with a weekend matchup at St. Louis on Saturday, where they dropped their third game in four contests despite outshooting the Billikens on the night. They continued their week with a midweek trip to George Mason on Wednesday, where they lost 4-2 to stretch their winless streak to five games. WOMEN’S SOCCER

FINAL (9/28): URI 1-0 Davidson

FINAL (10/1): URI 3-0 George Mason 

The URI women’s soccer team picked up their first two wins of the 2023 campaign this week, out-scoring their opponents 4-0 across both games and keeping their fifth and sixth clean sheets of the year. For more on the games, see Zack Petrick’s recap (page 12, rhodycigar.com)

VOLLEYBALL

FINAL (9/30): George Mason 3-0 URI

FINAL (10/1): George Mason 3-1 URI

FINAL (10/4): Fordham 3-0 URI

Despite playing the longest set in program history (37-35), the Rams were shutout on Saturday by George Washington before picking up only one set in the second game between the two teams on Sunday. They finished a busy week with a Wednesday nice match at Fordham, where they were once again blanked in three sets. The hunt for their first conference win of the season will continue in a pair of matches against Davidson this weekend. 

GOLF

Tied-8th of 13 – UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

The Rams continued their season in Hampden, Massachusetts with a total team score of 34-over par across the three-day event. For more on the invitational, see David Okula’s recap (rhodycigar.com).

TENNIS

URI Fall Invite

The URI women’s tennis team returned to their newly-renovated home courts for the first time in over a year on Sunday, winning 11 of their 16 singles matches with three players going undefeated. CROSS COUNTRY

MEN’S: 12th overall – Battle at Beantown – Boston, MA

WOMEN’S: 40th of 44 – Paul Short Invitational – Bethlehem, PA

URI men’s and women’s cross country were in action this weekend in their final tune-up before the annual New England Championships in Boston next weekend.
