The University of Rhode Island student senate hosted Chief of Police Michael Jagoda, rejected a bylaw amendment related to student organizations, introduced two budget changes and introduced picks for a judiciary branch in a meeting on Wednesday.

Jagoda spoke to a variety of campus issues, mostly related to parking. The URI Police Department plans to work with the South Kingstown Police Department to address reports of excessive towing in the Kingston Emporium. Students who feel they have been unfairly treated by towing companies are encouraged to contact the URI Police Department.

New construction on campus has led to a closure of the Flagg Road lot, according to Jagoda. Students who previously parked in the Flagg lot are being asked to move their vehicles to the Plains Road Lot.

The Student Organization Committee will host a mandatory meeting for club presidents on Nov. 13 in Pastore Hall.

The External Affairs Committee will hold “Tea with Town Council” on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 300. Narragansett town council members Jason Colonies, James Durkin and Donna McNaley will be present.

The senate failed to pass a bylaw amendment that required a representative from student organizations to be present at their recognition meetings.

The senate passed a budget change, moving $77,893.44 from the Renaissance Yearbook account to the Memorial Union account. Previously, the Renaissance Yearbook was run by a student organization, but is now the Memorial Union’s responsibility.

The next student senate meeting will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 300.
