FINAL (11/29): University of Rhode Island 27-19 Central Connecticut State University
Rhode Island pushed past Central Connecticut State on Saturday, winning its first round game in the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs 27-19. Fourth-year Devin Farrell threw for two touchdowns and 365 yards. The scores came from fifth-year Connor Finer, who got things going early for the Rams with a 28-yard touchdown, followed by fourth-year Marquis Buchanan and fifth-year Antwain Littleton Jr., who each had a touchdown. Rhode Island held a 24-7 lead at halftime. Fifth-year Garth White had a pair of field goals, including one in the second half, to finish off the victory for the Rams. Men’s Basketball
FINAL (12/2): URI 66-56 Brown University
Rhode Island pulled away late on Tuesday, improving its record to 7-2 with a 10-point win over Brown. Third-year Jahmere Tripp and seventh-year Tyler Cochran each scored 17 points, leading the way for the Rams. Rhode Island’s defense came up strong, as they held Brown to 31% from the field on the night. Brown hung around late, but fifth-year Keeyan Itejere added 11 second-half points, and the Rams were able to do enough to get the win in front of their home crowd. Women’s Basketball
FINAL (12/3): URI 59-52 Saint Joseph’s University
Rhode Island was able to maintain control of the game, as it won its first conference game of the season against Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday. The Rams were led by second-year Palmire Mbu, who scored 20 points. Mbu scored nine of Rhode Island’s 12 second-quarter points to help Rhody go into half with a strong lead against the Hawks. The Hawks pushed for a comeback in the second half, shooting 58% from the field, but URI was able to maintain control of the game as fourth-year Brooklyn Gray, first-year Vanessa Harris and Mbu hit crucial shots down the stretch to seal the game for the Rams.
