NCAA Regional Championship (11/15) – 23rd of 39
The Rams ran at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Contoocook, New Hampshire on Friday morning. This was their first time competing at the event since 2022. Third-year Lily Saul was the top finisher for Rhody, taking 114th place in the race with a time of 21:58.60 minutes. Fourth-year Sofia Piccone followed shortly with a time of 22:03.97 minutes to earn 125th place. Five more runners placed in the race. Men’s Cross Country
NCAA Regional Championship (11/15) – 27th of 38
Also making the trip to Contoocook, New Hampshire, the Rams finished 27th of 38 teams in the afternoon. The only Ram to earn a spot in the top 100 finishers was second-year Garrett Hartline with a time of 31:46.82 in the 10-kilometer race, earning him 87th place. The second fastest Ram was second-year Nick Martin, finishing in 155th place with a time of 32:47.34. There were three more Rams that competed in the race: third-year Lars Hogne, fifth-year Nathan Masi and third-year Antonio Capalbo. FINAL (11/16): Davidson College 3-1 URI
Rhody’s season wrapped up with a pair of road losses against Atlantic 10 opponent Davidson over the weekend. Friday night’s matchup was a deciding factor in terms of postseason contention, eliminating Rhody in the four-set defeat. First-year middle blocker Havyn Rolle recorded a career-high 17 kills, but Davidson led 62-44 in kills throughout the match. Davidson set the tone in the opening set, defeating Rhody 25-12. The following 25-21 set loss was closer, as it was a one-point match down the stretch. Rhody’s 25-21 set three win was not enough to fuel a comeback, as Davidson won the final set 25-13. Less than 24 hours later, the Rams and Wildcats met again, with URI earning the first set victory before losing three straight. URI hit .157 in comparison to Davidson’s .341 on the day. FINAL (11/16): URI 20-17 University at Albany
The Rams earned a comeback victory on Saturday afternoon at Meade Stadium, improving to 9-2 on the season. Sixth-year running back Malik Grant scored three second-half touchdowns to lead the Rams to the win. The Great Danes scored 17 points in the first half and finished the game with more total yards and pass yards than the Rams. Rhode Island scored 13 in the third quarter, heading into the final quarter down by four points. When URI took their first lead of the game at 9:36, it was up to their defense to preserve the win. Fourth-year Westley Neal Jr. came up big on the contest’s final play, blocking the potential game-tying field goal. FINAL (11/17): St. John’s University 60-45 URI
FINAL (11/20): URI 81-35 University of Massachusetts Lowell
Despite leading through two quarters, URI fell behind in the third quarter and wasn’t able to recover against the Thunderbirds. A late 7-0 run in the second quarter contributed to the Rams’ 27-18 lead at halftime. However, the Thunderbirds had a 10-0 run of their own in the third quarter, in which they outscored URI 21-6. URI went 7-14 from the free throw line and third-year Ines Debroise led the team in points with 10 points. On Wednesday, the Rams traveled to Lowell and got out to their hottest start of the year, scoring a season-high 45 first-half points. Fourth-year Sophie Phillips led the Rams in points with 14, including three 3-pointers from behind the arc. The Rams took a 45-24 lead into halftime and proceeded to out-score the River Hawks 36-11 throughout the second half. Rhody also out-rebounded their opponent 43-21. FINAL (11/20): URI 86-72 Lafayette College
Wednesday night’s matchup saw the Rams continue their undefeated season at the Ryan Center. URI fourth-year guard Sebastian Thomas scored 23 points on the night – the highest on the team – followed by fourth-year forward David Green’s 17 points. Green also had 14 rebounds, which was double the amount of rebounds than the second highest Ram, second-year forward David Fuchs, had in the contest. The Rams led by 13 at halftime, but narrowly outscored the Leopards 46-45 in the second half. Despite shooting 4-20 from the three point line, URI maintained their lead and held on for the win, advancing to 4-0. Read more on the win in Aidan Garvey’s article (rhodycigar.com).
