BUTTING HEADS: EAGLES VS. CHIEFS

They are inevitable. They are the Kansas City Chiefs.

The first team in the National Football League’s history to win back-to-back Super Bowls and make it to the next one, they have a chance to do the first ‘three-peat’ in the Super Bowl era. They are already the undisputed greatest NFL football dynasty ever. And who’s gonna stop them? Head Coach Nick Sirianni’s merry band of misfit men? I think not!

The Chiefs have only lost one meaningful game this entire season, much due to the late game heroics of Head Coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This season, when it matters, the Chiefs somehow win, even if it’s not in the most convincing fashion.

Let’s give credit where credit is due. The Philadelphia Eagles have a stellar defense and one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL. Usually that tandem is good enough to win a championship. These past few years have been different. The Chiefs are inevitable.

It doesn’t matter if they’re down at halftime, the Chiefs find a way to win. Mahomes has had some struggles this season, but his clutch gene is battle-tested. When need be, Mahomes and his offensive weapons get their story-book game-winning drive.

And in all honesty, who wants to bet against the Chiefs right now? After the last two seasons, their third ring in a row is theirs to lose, not the other way around.

Official prediction: KC 31-24 PHI

On the other side of the ball, Quarterback Jalen Hurts hasn’t lost a game he started and finished since late September. This team made an adjustment at the bye week and had the best defense in football all year. Put that against a Kansas City Chiefs team that didn’t score 30 points until the conference championship game, and it’s a recipe for success.

This is absolutely the better roster. general manager Howie Roseman did his job beautifully and the accolades of this team are apparent at every level of the offense and defense. A Second-Team All-Pro on the defensive line. A First-Team All-Pro at linebacker. In the secondary? Not one, but two finalists for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. On offense they just have Saquon Barkley: an MVP-candidate and probable Offensive Player of the Year at running back. He goes along with a top-end receiver duo and probably the best offensive line in football.

The Chiefs may have the big names but how many players on that team could start for Philly? Seven? Six?

These teams have faced each other in the big game before. The Chiefs won then, but they won’t do it again. Kansas City does not have a strong defense, leaving defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo blitzing more frequently to cover the blemishes. The Philadelphia Eagles are more well-rounded and better coached than they were last time. They couldn’t seal the deal in Super Bowl 57, but they will get the job done in Super Bowl 59.

Official prediction: PHI 30-27 KC
