The University of Rhode Island Student Senate met to elect a director of treasury, a director of communications, a speaker of the assembly and six committee chairs.
The senate voted to elect Jacob Milner as student organization committee chair, Molly Wentworth
as academic affairs chair, Kairy Gonzalez as cultural affairs chair, Arpan Utkarsh Singh as external affairs chair, Cameron Hudson as campus affairs chair and Cole Rinne as speaker of assembly.
Junior John Njende was elected as the director of treasury and Madison Hinrichs was elected as director of communications.
These positions are all for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Michael Jagoda, URI assistant vice president of public safety and chief of police, and Lisa M Giudici, first-year experience coordinator, spoke with the senate to discuss the resources available to students.
Jaconda spoke on safety resources provided by the department, including emergency management, the 911 dispatch center, fire safety, alarm services and physical security.
“My door is always open for all in any way that we can work towards enhancing and achieving that safe and secure campus,” Jaconda said.
Giudici reviewed the First-Year Experience Program, which includes five pillars available to incoming students, according to Giudici. These include URI 101, Course-Based Community Coursework, Rhody F1rst, Phi Eta Sigma and The Giving Back Library.
The senate also passed a bill amending the revised senate constitution. This was the second time the bill was put on the floor after failing to pass earlier in the semester.
The senate’s final meeting of the semester will occur on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 300.
