The University of Rhode Island men’s soccer team were held scoreless this week, losing both games and dropping them to 4-4 on the season
They lost 1-0 on Saturday at the University of Connecticut and on Wednesday, they fell 2-0 when St. Francis Brooklyn came to Kingston. Â Â
On Saturday, Rhode Island was unable to put one of their four shots-on-goal in the back of the net. In each of Rhode Island’s four losses this season, they have failed to score a goal.
“On the road against a tough opponent in UConn is always going to be a tough place to play,” head coach Gareth Elliott said. “Our guys played hard but we didn’t have enough to conceal a victory.â€
Connecticut’s Fredrik Jonsson scored in the 21st minute for the lone goal on Saturday night off of an assist from Jake Nerwinski that would serve to be the game winner for UConn.
Rhode Island sophomore goalkeeper Chad Fox made his first start and recorded five saves. Rhode Island was outshot 12-5 by the Huskies in the game.
On Wednesday night, the game remained scoreless in the first half. However, St. Francis Brooklyn found the back of the net in the 46th minute off a penalty kick and again in the 86th minute.
“We need to get back on the scoring sheet after being shut out,” Elliott said. “That is where we can most improve at the moment.â€
Rhode Island plays next at Yale University on Saturday night.
