Junior at the University of Rhode Island, Elizabeth Miceli, released her first novel on Oct. 6. The novel touches on different topics such as sexuality, drug use, and mental health issues. Miceli said that after the four year long process, she just wants to make a difference through her novel. Her dreams of becoming an author began when she wrote song lyrics at a young age. Her song lyrics turned into poems, then into short stories, then into novels. Miceli began working on these ideas during her senior year of high school. She is majoring in human development and family studies with a minor in psychology at URI. “At this point, I want this to be my career. Writing is really just so therapeutic for me,†she said. According to Miceli, she said that she anticipates her sequel to Barren to be set for release during the summer of 2016.
