FINAL (11/8): University of Rhode Island 34-20 Elon University
Fourth-year Devin Farrell led Rhode Island to a 34-20 win over Elon on Saturday, guiding an offense that scored 24 unanswered points in the first half. The victory, paired with Monmouth University’s loss to the University of New Hampshire, puts the Rams in control of their Coastal Athletic Association title hopes. Elon opened with a 50-yard field goal, but Rhode Island responded with a 97-yard drive capped by Farrell’s 10-yard touchdown run. Farrell later connected with fourth-year Aboraa Kwarteng for a 70-yard touchdown as URI built a 24-3 lead. Second-year Alex McClelland’s six-yard rushing touchdown sealed the win for the Rams. Men’s Basketball
FINAL (11/7): University of Tulsa 82-65 URI
FINAL (11/11): URI 80-57 Stonehill College
Tulsa used a first-half surge to pull away and defeat Rhode Island 82-65 on Friday night at the Veteran’s Classic. The teams traded baskets early, combining for 33 points in the first seven minutes. Rhode Island led 16-11 after a third-year Jahmere Tripp three-pointer, but Tulsa responded with a 16-0 run to take control at 27-16. The Golden Hurricane maintained control throughout the second half, and although the Rams closed the gap to 49-40, they never drew closer.
Rhode Island used a strong defensive effort to defeat Stonehill 80-57 on Tuesday night. The Rams forced 21 turnovers and scored 30 points off them, led by seventh-year Tyler Cochran’s program-record nine steals. For more, read David Okula’s article (page 11, rhodycigar.com).

FINAL (11/7): URI 84-46 Merrimack College
FINAL (11/10): URI 105-49 Emmanuel College
Rhode Island used a dominant first quarter to defeat Merrimack 84-46 in its home opener on Friday night. The Rams opened the game on a 28-4 run and never looked back, posting their first 80-point performance of the season. Second-year Palmire Mbu scored eight of her career-high 14 points in the first quarter and grabbed eight rebounds. Fourth-year Ines Debroise also pulled down a career-high eight boards. Eight players had at least three rebounds for Rhode Island. The Rams finished strong with a 23-point fourth quarter while holding Merrimack to 3-18 shooting. The Warriors made just one of their final nine field goal attempts as Rhode Island hit its last four shots to seal the win.
Rhode Island opened with a 13-2 run and defeated Division III opponent Emmanuel 105-49 on Monday night. The Rams led 22-8 late in the first quarter, then closed the half on a 22-5 run. Mbu had a career-high 24 points to secure the win. For more, read Abby LePage’s article (page 10, rhodycigar.com).

Top-seeded Dayton captured the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship on Sunday, edging No. 4 Rhode Island in a penalty shootout after a scoreless draw in regulation. Rhode Island appeared to win the shootout when third-year goalkeeper Dani Eden made a diving save with the Rams leading 4-3, but officials ruled she left the goal line early. FINAL (11/7): Loyola University Chicago 3-1 URI
FINAL (11/8): Loyola Chicago 3-0 URI
Loyola Chicago defeated Rhode Island 3-1 on Friday, winning sets two and four in dominant fashion. The Ramblers took the match 25-20, 25-10, 23-25, 25-11. Third-year Kaitlyn Burke led Loyola in kills, while fourth-year Aerin Bowman paced Rhode Island with five kills in the Rams’ third-set victory. Loyola Chicago swept Rhode Island 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 on Saturday. The Ramblers overpowered Rhody in the Rams’ final road series of the season.
