A-10 MBB Power Rankings: Week of 2/9

With just over a month remaining until the selection show for March Madness, teams continue to boost their resumes in hopes of getting an at-large bid.

This is the second power ranking of the Atlantic 10 Conference teams, voted on by the Good Five Cent Cigar Sports Staff.

Here is how all 14 teams rank as of Feb. 9:

14th Place: La Salle University Explorers (7-17, 3-8) (-2)

The Explorers’ offensive struggles continued as they were only able to put up 61 and 58 points in their losses to Loyola University Chicago and Saint Louis University, respectively.

The two losses extended La Salle’s losing streak to four games and gave Loyola Chicago just its second A-10 win of the season, its first since Dec. 31, 2025, against the University of Rhode Island.

13th Place: Loyola University Chicago Ramblers (6-21, 2-10) (+1)

As mentioned before, the Ramblers ended a nine-game losing streak with a 71-61 win against La Salle. This win was also the first double-digit win for Loyola Chicago this season.

The Ramblers’ celebration was short-lived as three days later, they would lose by 20 points in an 81-61 loss against Davidson College. Loyola Chicago now has the pleasure of hosting No. 18 Saint Louis on Thursday, and we wouldn’t blame the Ramblers if they just forfeit the game to avoid adding any more embarrassment to an already awful season.

12th Place: Richmond University Spiders (13-11, 3-8) (+1)

The Spiders only played one game this week, an 82-77 loss against URI on Saturday. The loss extended their losing streak to six games.

The bright spot for Richmond is fourth-year center Mike Walz, who continues to average a career-high in points per game and rebounds per game. The not-so-bright spot is that it’s hard to predict another win on the schedule for the Spiders as they only face one team below .500 in conference play in St. Bonaventure University.

11th Place: George Washington University Revolutionaries (13-11, 4-7) (-2)

The Revolutionaries continue to free-fall down our rankings and the A-10 standings as they lost both of their matchups this week and continue to await the return of fifth-year center Rafael Castro.

The good news for the Revolutionaries is that they lost their past two games by a combined five points and staged late comeback rallies in both games. We’ll see if they are finally able to get over the hump as they host a surging URI that’s won four of its last five games.

10th Place: Fordham University Rams (12-12, 3-8) (-)

Fordham was unable to build on its two-game winning streak heading into this past week, as the Rams dropped two close games against Virginia Commonwealth University and St. Bonaventure.

The Rams were able to move up into first in the A-10 in defense, now holding opponents to just 65.1 points per game. The offensive struggles are still very apparent as they still rank as a bottom-three offense in the conference, scoring 70.9 points per game.

9th Place: St. Bonaventure University Bonnies (14-10, 3-8) (+2)

The Bonnies continue to play in nail-biters as they just barely fell to the University of Dayton, 72-70, on Feb. 3, then bounced back with a 70-67 win against Fordham on Saturday. They’ve now won two of their last four games, with their last three being decided by four points or less.

The Bonnies are in a tight race with four other teams to try to avoid the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and if these last three games tell us anything, it’s that the Bonnies will keep themselves in it until the very end.

8th Place: University of Rhode Island Rams (14-9, 5-5) (-1)

The Rams played just one game this week, just like their opponent, Richmond. Seventh-year Tyler Cochran helped carry the Rams to a comeback victory with a career-high 34 points on Saturday.

Rhody is winners of four of their last five, but the same question remains for the Rams as they prepare to travel to the nation’s capital to face George Washington on Tuesday. Has a new corner turned for the Rams? The same answer also remains. Only time will tell.

T-6th Place: Davidson College Wildcats (15-9, 6-5) (-)

The Wildcats offensive inconsistencies have started to level out, as they’ve scored 80+ points in each of their last three games. The Wildcats lost 91-82 in a shootout against the nationally ranked Billikens on Feb. 3, but won 84-64 against Loyola Chicago on Friday, in a get-right game for Davidson.

The Wildcats will have six days of rest until they take on the Flyers. The two teams are neck and neck in the standings as both teams look to make a final push towards fourth place in the conference and earn the coveted double-bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

T-6th Place: University of Dayton Flyers (15-9, 6-5) (-1)

Dayton snapped its four-game losing streak with a 72-70 win over the Bonnies, but almost allowed 100 points once again to a top team in the A-10 in VCU on Friday.

The Flyers have developed some serious defensive struggles as conference play has continued. They’ve allowed 70+ points in five straight games. Usually, teams can balance that with a high-powered offense, but the Flyers have only scored 75+ points in a game once in their last six games. The Flyers have a nine-day break between their 99-73 loss to VCU and their matchup against Davidson. Hopefully, head coach Anthony Grant is running a few more defensive drills in practice with this break between games.

5th Place: Duquesne University Dukes (14-10, 6-5) (+3)

The Dukes rose to the occasion against George Mason University with a 71-65 win to hand the Patriots just their second A-10 loss of the season. Duquesne then extended its winning streak to three games with an 88-86 win over George Washington on Saturday.

To say the Dukes are hot feels like a gross understatement with the quality of wins they’ve been able to pull off recently. Also, to make a good thing even better, the Dukes only have one team left on their schedule that ranks above them in the power rankings, Saint Louis, on Feb. 28.

4th place: Saint Joseph’s University Hawks (15-9, 7-4) (-)

The Hawks’ wings were clipped on Saturday with a 60-52 loss against George Mason. Before that game, St. Joe’s extended its win streak to four games with a 76-73 win over George Washington on Feb. 4.

The Hawks will look to maintain their control over fourth place in the A-10 as they face three of the bottom five teams in the rankings in their next three games.

3rd Place: George Mason University Patriots (21-3, 9-2) (-1)

George Mason has now lost two of its last five conference games after starting A-10 play 7-0. A team that once looked poised to have the best shot at stealing an Atlantic 10 Tournament title from Saint Louis now seems more like a speed bump standing in the way of Saint Louis’s steamroller.

The Patriots’ recent losses can be directly attributed to their offensive struggles, as they’ve scored less than 70 points in five of their last six games. With matchups against Duquesne, VCU and Saint Louis still looming on their schedule, it’s fair to wonder if the Patriots will be able to hold on to their top four ranking in the A-10 as more and more surprising losses appear on their record.

2nd Place: Virginia Commonwealth University Rams (18-6, 9-2) (+1)

The Rams are the conference’s second-hottest team as they are winners of seven straight games, adding wins against Fordham and Dayton this past week.

VCU continues to separate itself from the rest of the A-10 as the only team that could steal an Atlantic 10 Tournament title and an auto-bid to March Madness away from Saint Louis. The Rams have scored 75+ points in seven of their last eight games and have held opponents to 75 points or under in seven straight games.

1st Place: No. 18 Saint Louis University Billikens (23-1, 11-0) (-)

The Billikens continue to look like a dominant force, not only in the A-10 but nationally. Saint Louis has scored less than 80 points just once in its last seven games. That one game below 80 points was a 79-76 win over George Washington on Jan. 27.

The Billikens head on the road for two games against Loyola Chicago and Rhode Island, but when they return home, it’ll be the matchup of the season for the Atlantic 10 as they host VCU in a game that just may be a preview of the conference’s championship game.
