My love for broadcast journalism began at fifteen years old. As cliché as this sounds, broadcast has always been part of my life. I knew when transferring to the University of Rhode Island, I wanted to keep my broadcast journey strong, and that next stop would be with The Cigar.
My main goal as the newscast editor has always been to put the students interested in learning broadcast first. I cannot express the amount of joy I have had being able to demonstrate and teach skills in broadcast to so many people in The Cigar. It has been my absolute favorite part of my job.
This position has opened the doors to endless opportunities, most notably my internship at WPRI-12. I am happy to say that after graduation, I will be working at WPRI-12 as the new Digital Video Producer. I credit my ability to get this job to the skills I learned during my time at The Cigar.
Owen Desharnais, you’re going to be an amazing newscast editor. I knew from the moment you came to me with the interest in running, you would be the perfect person to take over.
Remember, this is your section – so make it yours. I know you’ll do great things with it. Give me a call anytime you need.
Thank you to Lauren Drapeau, Nathan Robillard and Owen Tierney for giving me the confidence to become newscast editor.
Sadie Brandt and Ella Gerdts, I am so proud of you both. I could not have asked for a better editor-in-chief and managing editor duo. Thank you for supporting my section, my reporters and myself. Your love and support for the newscast is more than I could have asked for.
Charlie Adams, what a dynamic we have had. It’s been a pleasure working with you for the Rhody Sports Corner. Your love and dedication to sports have helped grow the RSC to great lengths. I’m happy we could squash our silent beef – well, at least until we have a silent beef again. All jokes aside, thank you for everything you have done.
To Nora Kelley, David Okula, Ryan Pelillo and the rest of “Cigfart,” thank you for being my closest friends at The Cigar. I will always cherish our memories and group chat laughter.
Thank you to Susan Sancomb for being one of my biggest supporters. I will always remember our conversations in the Cigar office, and I’ll make sure to update you if I marry Ringo Starr.
I also want to thank Jeff Fountain, Riley Maynard and Adriana Correia for their help in producing the newscast each week in the broadcast studio.
It would be wrong of me if I did not thank Marc Pitler. Thank you for helping my Cigar reporters and giving them the equipment they need to succeed.
To Adriana Correia and Natalie Raynor, thank you for being my closest friends. My college experience would not have been the same without you both. You guys will always be the Buttercup and Blossom to my Bubbles.
Rexton, thank you for being by my side this semester. Our bond formed unexpectedly, and there are not enough words to express how grateful I am for your support, friendship and love. I will cherish the memories we made this semester, and I look forward to making more memories with you as our futures continue.
For the last time, this has been Morganne Judd, signing off from The Good Five Cent Cigar Newscast.
