Bad Bunny, has just been revealed to be the Super Bowl LX halftime performer, and people are not happy about it. Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican rapper who came out with his new album, “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” in January. He has won three Grammy awards and also just hosted the first episode of the latest season of Saturday Night Live. I think Bad Bunny is a very qualified rapper and more than capable of performing on this stage.
Bad Bunny performs all of his songs primarily in Spanish, and people are complaining that the Super Bowl is an American classic. They argue the entire Super Bowl should not be in a language other than English. I disagree. Bad Bunny has performed at the Super Bowl once as a guest with Shakira, another Latina singer. Shakira performed at Super Bowl LIV back in 2020, who sang a lot of her songs primarily in Spanish. So why is it that now in 2025, this is an issue? Bad Bunny is currently on his tour for his new album and is not performing in any of the U.S. states. He decided to do this in order to protect his fans, who are primarily Latin people, so Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can’t harm them at his concerts, according to U.S.A. Today.
People have so many opinions and arguments as to why Bad Bunny isn’t qualified to host the Super Bowl. One is that the Super Bowl is an American tradition, which doesn’t even make sense since Bad Bunny is from Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. Some discourse online says that many of the complaints are made by President Donald Trump supporters. Government official Corey Lewandowski, who is Trump’s Homeland Security advisor, said that Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl is “shameful,” according to Corey Lewandowski on The Benny Show. Now, there are rumors that ICE will be in attendance during the Super Bowl, which frankly, I think is absolutely ridiculous. Why would underpaid, underprivileged Latin people be able to go to the Super Bowl? The priorities are all messed up.
People online that say “nobody asked for this” is an elementary complaint. Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl could be a great opportunity for football to become more globalized. I think that a Latin singer performing at the Super Bowl is a good thing because it can lead to increased viewership around the world, which is a great thing for the NFL.
My personal opinion is that if you don’t enjoy Bad Bunny and don’t care for his Super Bowl performance, then don’t watch it! It isn’t hard to just mind your own business and ignore the Super Bowl. I am actually very excited to watch his performance. I think he has a chance at becoming one of the best Spanish rappers of all time with the way he is going.
